Jakarta LRT Extension – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced plans to extend the Jakarta Light Rail Transit system to Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 and continue the route to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as part of efforts to strengthen public transport integration across the capital.
The proposed development forms part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s long-term transport strategy to connect existing and future transit corridors into a more integrated network.
The announcement was delivered during the inauguration of Tian Fu Gong Temple in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, on Sunday, 17 May 2026, as quoted from Bisnis.com.
Jakarta Focuses on Completing the Core LRT Route
Before expanding the network towards northern Jakarta and the airport, the provincial government is prioritising completion of the central corridor connecting Velodrome and Dukuh Atas.
Pramono said the Jakarta LRT development route had already received approval from the central government and would continue towards the Ancol area.
“The current LRT connects from Velodrome to Manggarai, which will hopefully be inaugurated in August,” he said.
According to the governor, the existing development covers approximately 12.2 kilometres and includes 11 stations, with an investment value of Rp11.5 trillion.
The administration plans to proceed directly with the Manggarai to Dukuh Atas extension once Phase 1B of the Velodrome to Manggarai route is completed.
Speaking at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, 20 May, Pramono said the decision was intended to create a continuous and integrated rail line.
“For the LRT, the decision was made to extend from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas, to complete one line from the Velodrome to Dukuh Atas,” he said.
The extension is expected to increase the total Jakarta LRT network length to 14.2 kilometres and provide service through 12 stations stretching from Pegangsaan Dua in Kelapa Gading to Dukuh Atas.
The Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the project would require investment worth trillions of rupiah.
Proposed Extension to PIK 2 and Soekarno-Hatta Airport
Following completion of the central corridor, the Jakarta Government plans to continue expansion towards North Jakarta before extending the line to Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 and Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Pramono said connectivity between these areas would become an important step in strengthening public transport access across Greater Jakarta.
“If this continues from the Velodrome to North Jakarta, Tanjung Priok, from Tanjung Priok to JIS, from JIS to Ancol, from Ancol, the route that needs to be addressed is that, if it is indeed fulfilled, it should reach PIK 2 and then be connected to the airport,” he said.
The proposed route would link several major areas through one rail corridor and support wider intermodal connectivity.
Government Targets More Integrated Public Transport
Pramono stated that transport integration in Jakarta currently stands at around 93 per cent.
The provincial government aims to complete the remaining unconnected segments to establish a more seamless network.
“As of today, it’s only 93 per cent complete, and of course, as governor, I hope that we can begin completing the unfinished loop that goes through Ancol, then PIK 2, and to the airport,” he said.
The government has not announced a construction schedule or completion target for the proposed extension to PIK 2 and Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
If implemented, the project would become part of Jakarta’s broader effort to expand public transport infrastructure and improve connections between residential areas, business districts, and transport hubs.
