An Australian national has been arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali after video footage depicting an indecent act outside a local resident’s property went viral across social media platforms.

The incident occurred in Gang Family, situated off Jalan Pantai Berawa in Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung Regency.

CCTV footage captured a 27-year-old Australian man, identified by authorities by the initials BA, entering the residential compound alongside a foreign woman. After briefly checking their surroundings, the couple engaged in sexual intercourse adjacent to the residence’s main entrance gate.

Acting Head of the Public Relations Sub-division for Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, confirmed the details following initial site verifications.

“Based on field verification and checks, it was confirmed that the viral video depicts an incident occurring next to the gate of a resident’s home,” stated Aiptu Ayu.

The act was discovered by the property owner, who had walked outside to place traditional ceremonial offerings near the gate. Upon witnessing the scene, the resident confronted the couple and shouted at them, prompting both individuals to clear the premises immediately.

Airport Interception and Law Enforcement Response

Following the circulation of the footage, law enforcement initiated an investigation to trace the suspects, who were believed to be residing temporarily in the Kerobokan area.

On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at approximately 12:00 WITA, a joint operational team comprising Unit 4 of the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Ngurah Rai Class I Special Immigration Office intercepted BA at the airport. Authorities detained the suspect just as he was attempting to board an international flight back to Australia.

A spokesperson for the Badung Police Public Relations division confirmed the successful interception and stated that official proceedings are underway.

“Yes, it is true [that the arrest occurred], and the individual is currently being questioned by investigators,” the spokesperson confirmed when contacted.

Police questioning of BA remains ongoing as authorities continue their investigation into the incident and work to locate the female foreign national involved in the case.

The homeowner held a Mecaru ceremony on Wednesday (26 August) at the location where a couple of foreign nationals had previously engaged in indecent behaviour.

This ceremony was conducted as a form of spiritual cleansing of the grounds, whilst also seeking balance and harmony in the environment in accordance with the beliefs of the local community. A number of residents also took part in the procession.

Previously, the indecent behaviour allegedly committed by the foreign couple had gone viral on social media and attracted public attention.
