Pluit Junction Mall Transforms into Jakarta’s First Electric Vehicle Centre

PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), also known as Jakpro, is undertaking a significant transformation of Pluit Junction Mall (MPJ) by converting it into EV Indonesia Centre, the first electric vehicle (EV) hub in the capital.

The mall, located in North Jakarta, is currently undergoing renovations and will be temporarily closed during this period. However, Fave Hotel, which shares the same complex, will remain operational as usual.

The revamped space is expected to function as a retail and educational hub dedicated to promoting the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.

The project reflects the national strategy to shift towards environmentally friendly transportation and aligns with the government’s ambitions to accelerate EV adoption.

“Mall Pluit Junction will reappear with a new face as the EV Indonesia Centre, a retail and education centre that supports the national electric vehicle industry,” said Dian Takdir Badrsyah, Director of Engineering and Development at Jakpro, as quoted by Antara.

Jakarta’s First Electric Vehicle Mall

According to Badrsyah, the renovation is part of a “beautification and concept adjustment” rather than a permanent closure. The vision is to create a future-forward facility in line with current lifestyle and industry trends.

Once completed, the EV Indonesia Centre will house integrated services including EV showrooms, charging stations (SPKLU), after-sales service centres, and even interactive educational spaces designed for children and families.

The centre aims to serve both as a commercial venue and a community learning space, offering an introduction to EV technology and its benefits.

This transformation comes at a time when Indonesia is intensifying efforts to build its electric vehicle ecosystem. In 2025, the government is targeting two million EVS, with a long-term goal of nine million electric vehicles on the roads by 2030.

As of the end of 2024, Indonesia had around 207,000 EVS in circulation, a 78% increase from the previous year.

Currently, the country is home to 79 EV manufacturing facilities, including 63 electric motorcycle factories, nine electric car factories, and seven electric bus factories.

Previously, Pluit Junction Mall was a community-focused retail destination popular in the early 2000s, known for its strategic position at the intersection of Jl. Pluit Selatan Raya and Jl. Pluit Timur Raya.

This upcoming transformation is expected to re-establish the site as a key landmark in North Jakarta, bridging technology, sustainability, and education.
