Karet Station in Jakarta will stop providing passenger boarding and alighting services for the Jabodetabek Commuter Line from Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The temporary closure is part of an integration project connecting Karet Station with Sudirman Baru, also known as BNI City Station.
The integration work is scheduled to run from September 1 to December 31, 2026. During this period, passengers who previously used Karet Station will be directed to Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station for Commuter Line services.
The project is being carried out by KAI Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta in collaboration with KAI Commuter. According to the railway operators, the work aims to reorganise passenger flows, strengthen operational safety and improve access around the stations.
“This integration process is being approached with great care, given that Karet Station has long been an integral part of the daily routines of Commuter Line users and the local community,” said KAI Commuter President Director Purnomo Sidi in an official statement on Saturday, August 29.
Passengers to Use BNI City Station
Starting September 1, all passenger services at Karet Station will be suspended. Passengers can use the walkway alongside Karet Station to reach BNI City Station, where facilities have been prepared to accommodate the additional passenger flow.
“KAI has prepared supporting facilities to serve passengers at BNI City Station,” the operator said.
“Electronic gates, ticket counters, and a concourse on the west side of BNI City Station are already in place and integrated with the access point from the Karet side,” KAI stated.
Passengers travelling on Commuter Line routes serving Depok, Bogor, Nambo, Jakarta Kota, Tanah Abang, Duri, Angke and Kampung Bandan can access the services through Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station during the integration period.
According to KAI Commuter, there are currently 264 Commuter Line trips to and from the Kampung Bandan/Cikarang line passing through Karet Station and Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station each day. The integration will not change the Cikarang Commuter Line timetable.
The main change for passengers is where they board and alight. Services previously handled at Karet Station will be transferred to Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station.
Basoetta Commuter Line services at BNI City Station will not be affected by the integration work. Passengers using the airport service will continue to board and alight at BNI City as usual.
Karet Station Has Recorded More Than 4 Million Passenger Movements
The closure comes after Karet Station recorded significant passenger activity during the first seven months of 2026.
From January to July, Karet Station recorded 2.17 million passenger boardings and 2.12 million alightings. During the same period, BNI City, also known as Sudirman Baru Station, recorded 940,478 boardings and 662,808 alightings.
Combined, the two stations handled approximately 5.9 million Jabodetabek Commuter Line passenger boarding and alighting movements between January and July 2026.
KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda said the integration is expected to improve facilities and accessibility around the stations.
“The layout of the integrated area will also enhance accessibility on the Karet Station side and at the Kendal Tunnel,” Karina said.
She added that KAI Commuter would deploy staff and provide information to passengers throughout the integration period. Measures will include additional signage, service personnel, public outreach and passenger flow management.
Passengers who normally use Karet Station are advised to allow additional travel time and follow the signs and directions provided by railway staff when accessing BNI City Station during the construction period.
