Indonesia’s Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) has made entering the country more convenient for eligible international travellers. The online system allows visitors to arrange their visa before departure, helping reduce paperwork and queues on arrival.
But there is one detail travellers should not overlook: accuracy matters.
According to Indonesia’s immigration guidance, certain minor errors may still be accepted. However, mistakes involving key identity information cannot be amended once the e-VoA has been issued. In such cases, travellers must submit a new application and pay the visa fee again.
Which Mistakes Require a New Application?
If you enter incorrect information for your:
- Full name
- Nationality
- Passport number
the issued e-VoA cannot be amended.
These details should match your passport exactly. A simple mistake can therefore mean submitting a fresh application, paying the visa fee again and potentially dealing with delays before your trip.
What About Minor Errors?
Some minor details, such as gender or place of birth, may not necessarily invalidate an approved e-VoA when the key passport information is correct.
Even so, travellers should review every field carefully before submitting their application. Correct information can help prevent unnecessary questions or complications during immigration checks.
Can an Approved e-VoA Be Edited?
No. Once an e-VoA has been issued, its information cannot be edited or corrected.
If a significant error is discovered after approval, the practical solution is to submit a new application through Indonesia’s official immigration system.
How Long Is an Indonesia e-VoA Valid?
Generally, an approved e-VoA must be used within 90 days of issuance. Once the traveller enters Indonesia, the visa provides an initial stay of 30 days.
Eligible visitors can generally extend the stay once for another 30 days, allowing a maximum stay of 60 days, subject to the applicable immigration requirements.

Why Getting It Right Matters
For travellers with fixed flights, hotel bookings, business meetings or onward travel, an incorrect visa application can create unnecessary costs and disruption.
This is particularly relevant for families, business travellers and visitors planning to spend more than a few weeks in Indonesia.
A careful review before payment is often the simplest way to avoid having to start the process again.
