A British national identified by the initials AM, 29, was arrested by police after allegedly stabbing a hotel employee in Jarakkan Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency, Bali.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening, 5 May 2026, at around 8.05 pm Central Indonesia Time. Police said the victim suffered serious injuries to the face following the attack.

Head of Public Relations for Buleleng Police, First Inspector Yohana Rosalin Diaz, confirmed that the suspect had been detained.

“Yes, that’s right. He has been detained and is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit,” she said on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, in Buleleng.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the incident. Police have not confirmed whether alcohol tests were conducted following the arrest.

CCTV Footage Shows Argument Before Attack

The alleged stabbing was captured on closed-circuit television cameras installed at the resort.

According to the footage, the suspect arrived at the hotel parking area in a white Suzuki Fronx with registration number DK 1461 FCG. He was then approached by a member of the resort’s front office staff.

The two men appeared to engage in a conversation before an argument broke out. The exact cause of the dispute has not yet been disclosed by police.

Moments later, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the employee. The victim sustained injuries to the face during the incident.

After the attack, the suspect left the scene in the same vehicle.

Buleleng Police Chief AKBP Ruzi Gusman said witness statements indicated that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

“Witness testimony indicates that the perpetrator was slurring his speech and was strongly suspected of being under the influence of alcohol,” said Ruzi Gusman on Wednesday, as quoted by RadarBali.

Police Arrest Suspect in Gilimanuk

Following the incident, resort security officers reportedly attempted to stop the suspect before he fled the area.

Because the location was close to Bali’s western border route, Buleleng Police coordinated with officers at Gilimanuk Harbour to prevent the suspect from leaving the island.

Police later tracked the suspect to Gilimanuk, a port area connecting Bali and Java.

At around 11.37 pm on the same evening, officers arrested the suspect while he was inside his vehicle in front of a row of shophouses in Gilimanuk.

Authorities also seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack. The suspect is currently being questioned by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Buleleng Police.
