Australian Tourist Found Dead in Legian Hotel Pool
A 74-year-old Australian tourist, identified by his initials NWC, was found dead in a hotel swimming pool on Jalan Sahadewa, Legian, Kuta, on Saturday, 11 April.
Denpasar Police Public Relations Chief, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, said the cause of death remains under investigation. “The cause of death is still unknown. Officers in the field are still investigating,” he told the media on Sunday, 12 April, as quoted by JPNN.
According to a statement given by the victim’s wife, VLC, 71, the couple had earlier spent time at Kuta Beach before returning to the hotel. Upon arriving at the pool, the victim asked for permission to swim.
He entered the pool shortly after. His wife then walked towards the north side of the pool to collect a towel. She later realised that her husband had not resurfaced after swimming from the south to the north side.
VLC attempted to locate him in the water and called for help when he did not appear. Her calls were heard by other hotel guests, who alerted staff.
Hotel employees arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim from the pool. First aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), was administered while the hotel contacted the Kuta II Community Health Centre.
“The victim was given first aid with CPR. Based on the medical examination, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” said I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya.
Police from Kuta Sector Police and Denpasar City Police conducted an initial investigation at the scene. The victim’s body was later transferred to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital for further examination.
Indian Teenager Drowns in East Denpasar Hotel
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old Indian national, Singh Aditya, was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in East Denpasar on Wednesday evening, 1 April 2026.
The incident occurred at around 9:10 PM WITA at a hotel on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, Kesiman Kertalangu. According to East Denpasar Police Chief, Commissioner I Ketut Tomiyasa, the victim had remained at the hotel while the rest of his group went out for dinner at approximately 8:23 PM.
The victim was first discovered by two witnesses who were crossing a bridge near the pool area. One of them reported seeing a dark shape at the bottom of the pool and alerted hotel staff.
“The body was found at the bottom of the swimming pool, two metres deep, face down, with his head to the north and his feet to the south,” said I Ketut Tomiyasa on Monday, 6 April 2026, as quoted from Liputan6.
Hotel staff and guests worked together to retrieve the victim from the pool. After being brought to the surface, first aid was immediately administered.
“A witness helped move the victim to the side and performed chest compressions. Foam was coming out of the victim’s mouth, and the witness assisted with chest compressions for over three minutes,” Tomiyasa added.
The victim was then transported to Dharma Yadnya Hospital using a hotel vehicle. Medical personnel later confirmed his death.
Police Continue Investigations into Both Cases
Initial examinations in the second case showed no signs of physical violence. Police reported the presence of fine white foam near the victim’s nose, which is consistent with drowning.
Authorities received the report at around 9:50 PM WITA and arrived at the location shortly after. The Denpasar Police identification team conducted a crime scene investigation later that night and continued inquiries at the hospital.
