The Indonesian government has officially expanded its visa-free entry policy by adding six countries and territories to the list of eligible destinations under a new immigration regulation that came into effect in July 2026.
The policy is stipulated in Regulation of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services of the Republic of Indonesia Number 10 of 2026 concerning the Addition of the List of Countries, Governments of Special Administrative Regions of a Country, and Certain Entities Granted Visa-Free Entry. The regulation was signed by Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Agus Andrianto and promulgated on 9 July 2026, replacing Ministerial Regulation Number 10 of 2025.
Under the new regulation, citizens of the Republic of Turkey, Federative Republic of Brazil, Republic of Peru, Republic of Kazakhstan, Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of Belarus are now eligible for visa-free entry to Indonesia.
According to the government, the decision followed a comprehensive evaluation based on the principles of reciprocity, national security, tourism, economic and investment potential, as well as other strategic considerations determined by the President.
Minister Agus Andrianto stressed that the policy was not introduced without careful assessment.
“The addition of this list of countries is the result of a thorough evaluation referring to Presidential Regulation Number 95 of 2024 concerning Visa-Free Visits. We strictly consider the principle of reciprocity, national security, the impact on the tourism sector, economic and investment potential, and other strategic aspects determined by the President,” Agus said, as quoted by WartaEkonomi.
He also reiterated that Indonesia does not grant visa-free access indiscriminately and that the policy is guided by the principles of prudence, reciprocity, and national security.
Some of the newly added countries, including Turkey and Brazil, had previously enjoyed visa-free entry to Indonesia before the policy was revised.
Kazakhstan’s Inclusion Highlights Bilateral Cooperation
One of the notable additions to the list is Kazakhstan, whose inclusion reflects the strengthening relationship between the two countries. Bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan is reportedly valued at approximately US$2 billion, covering trade, investment, and broader economic collaboration.
Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Dr M. Fadjroel Rachman, described the visa-free policy as a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
“The issuance of Visa-Free Travel for Kazakhstani citizens to Indonesia is one of the pinnacle achievements of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan,” Fadjroel said.
He added that the reciprocal nature of the arrangement would further deepen cooperation between the two nations.
“I believe this visa-free policy will boost tourism, trade, and investment between the two richest and largest countries in Central and Southeast Asia. Previously, Kazakhstan had already issued a visa-free policy for Indonesian citizens to visit Kazakhstan,” he said.
The ambassador expressed confidence that easier travel arrangements would encourage greater people-to-people exchanges while supporting business and investment opportunities between the two countries.
Government Aims to Strengthen Tourism and International Cooperation
The latest expansion forms part of Indonesia’s broader strategy to improve international connectivity while maintaining immigration safeguards through regular policy evaluations.
The government expects the visa-free programme to support the tourism sector, attract more foreign investment, and strengthen economic cooperation with partner countries. Officials also noted that Indonesian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free access to 88 countries, reflecting the country’s growing international mobility and diplomatic engagement.
