An American tourist has died while trekking in the forest area of West Bali National Park (TNBB), Bali Police confirmed on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Brad Alan (61), a United States citizen, collapsed during a guided trekking activity in Hamjar Dinas Teluk Terima, Sumberklampok Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency. Authorities said the incident occurred on Friday, 30 January 2026, at approximately 10:10 a.m. WITA.

According to police, the incident was reported to the Gerokgak Police around 20 minutes later. Officers and officials from West Bali National Park were dispatched to the location shortly after receiving the report.
Buleleng Police Public Relations Chief First Inspector Yohana Rosalin Diaz confirmed the victim had entered the national park area accompanied by a local guide.

“The victim had only travelled about 100 metres while trekking when he experienced shortness of breath, lost consciousness, and ultimately died,” Yohana said on Saturday, as quoted by DetikNews.

Victim Collapsed Shortly After Trek Began

Yohana explained that the trekking activity began at around 10:00 a.m. WITA. The victim was accompanied by a guide identified as Bargianto, who later became a key witness.

While walking along the forest trail, the guide noticed the victim struggling to breathe.

“The victim was seen holding onto a tree trunk and gasping for breath. The guide helped him sit down and rest,” Yohana said.

She added that the situation quickly deteriorated. “Shortly thereafter, the victim fell and lost consciousness. The witness then contacted the TNBB for evacuation assistance,” she explained.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. WITA, a rescue team from West Bali National Park arrived at the location. The victim was evacuated and transported to Melaya II Community Health Centre in Jembrana Regency.

However, medical personnel later confirmed that the victim had died while being transported.

“Based on the initial medical examination, the victim was pronounced dead en route,” Yohana said.

Following the incident, the victim’s body was taken to Jembrana Regional Hospital while authorities coordinated further procedures.

Police said the hotel where the victim had been staying had contacted the United States Consulate. Discussions were also ongoing with the victim’s family regarding the next steps.

“The family and hotel management stated that no post-mortem or autopsy will be performed while awaiting the family’s decision,” Yohana concluded.
