A Russian woman was found dead in Bali, at a residence in Kerobokan Kaja, North Kuta, Badung Regency, on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. Police later confirmed that the victim died by suicide.
The victim, identified by her initials VT, aged 50, was found hanging in front of the garage of her rented house. A blue rope was tied around her neck. The discovery was reported to police shortly after it was made by a house worker.
North Kuta Police Chief Commissioner I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina said the victim was already dead when officers arrived at the scene.
“The victim was found hanging in the garage, and her body was clearly bruised,” Agus Pasek said, as quoted by Liputan6.
The body was discovered by a house worker, Ni Wayan Latri, 50, who intended to turn off the garage lights. She told police she was shocked upon seeing the victim hanging and immediately ran to call her husband, I Nengah Kantun, 45.
Kantun then informed the homeowner and reported the incident to the Kerobokan Kaja Bhabinkamtibmas, the local community police officer. Officers from the North Kuta Police and the Badung Police forensic identification unit later secured the scene.
According to police, the victim lived alone at the property and rarely left the house.
Police Recover Will and Personal Belongings
During a search of the house, officers found a handwritten will placed on a table in the living room. The letter described the victim’s emotional condition and her financial concerns.
“There’s nothing good ahead, so there’s no reason or strength to continue,” read an excerpt from the will.
In the note, the victim blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for confiscating her assets to fund war-related taxes. Police confirmed that the will also contained personal requests regarding her belongings, pets, and the handling of her body.
“Please take care of Kisa the cat. Feed her three times a day, give her water, and pet her. The leftover food is in the refrigerator,” the victim wrote.
She also asked that her family be informed of her death.
“Please inform my brother, TG. Thank you. I apologise for all the hardship I’ve caused,” the letter stated.
The homeowner, Made Nasia, 63, told police that the victim had previously shown signs of psychological distress. He said she had received medical treatment at Garba Med Hospital and was known to remain inside the house most of the time.
Police also documented several personal belongings at the scene. These included approximately IDR 60 million in cash, foreign currency, two passports, a mobile phone with a charger, and other personal items.
Based on the forensic examination conducted by the Badung Police identification team, officers found no signs of physical violence on the victim’s body.
“Based on the investigation by the Badung Police identification team, it was confirmed that the victim died from suicide by hanging,”
Commissioner Agus Pasek said.
“The victim is suspected to have been suffering from depression, as confirmed by the testimony of witness three and the will left by the victim in her living room,” he added.
