Rizieq Shihab is to be Released on Parole Today

July 20, 2022 – Former FPI High Priest Rizieq Shihab is to be released on parole Wednesday (20/7). The Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of PAS Kemenkumham Rika Aprianti has confirmed it.

“[Rizieq Shihab] will be released on parole on July 20, 2022,” said Rika in a written statement.

Rika explained that Rizieq has completed the administrative and substantive requirements to obtain the right of remission and integration in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of RI Number 7 in the Year 2022.

Additionally, the lawyer of the former FPI High Priest, Muhammad Rizieq Shihab Aziz Yanuar, said that he would be released from the Criminal Investigation Unit at the National Police Headquarters today. However, Aziz did not specify the time at which Rizieq would be released.

“We ask for everyone’s prayer, Insyaallah,” said Aziz on Tuesday (19/7) night.

Rizieq Shihab was sentenced to jail on December 12, 2020 after he was found guilty of spreading false information regarding the result of the COVID-19 swab test in RS Ummi, Bogor.

Initially, he was sentenced to four years of jail by the East Jakarta District Court regarding the matter. However, The Supreme Court (MA) has decided it will be two years instead.

The Former FPI High Priest was also temporarily detained at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center. But was transferred to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit state prison afterward.

Despite his release from prison, Rizieq Shihab has to go through mandatory counseling at the Correctional Center (Bapas).

While going through the counseling, Rizieq Shihab has to comply with the rules that were set and explained by the Bapas. Some of the rules include maintaining good behavior and not committing any violations, especially criminal offenses.

The former FPI High Priest was prosecuted for two criminal acts, namely based on Article 93 of UU 6/2018 regarding Health Quarantine and the crime of spreading misinformation based on Article 14 of UU 1/1946 regarding Criminal Law Regulations.
