A 67-year-old Dutch woman, identified by her initials FMMM, has been placed at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Centre (Rudenim) after allegedly causing disturbances at a hotel and later at the Denpasar Immigration Office.
The incident began after FMMM reportedly had a disagreement with the management of the hotel where she was staying. Local police received a report about the incident and subsequently secured the woman before handing her over to the Denpasar Immigration Office for further immigration-related proceedings.
Head of the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office, R. Haryo Sakti, said the police acted after receiving a report about the incident at the hotel.
“The local police, who received the report, immediately secured the person concerned and handed her over to the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office for further immigration handling,” Haryo said, as quoted by detikBali on Wednesday (23 September).
The case was subsequently handled by immigration officials. However, FMMM reportedly caused another disturbance while undergoing an examination at the Denpasar Immigration Office.
Woman Moved to Rudenim Denpasar
According to immigration officials, FMMM became disruptive again while the examination was taking place.
“During the examination process at the Denpasar Immigration Office, FMMM again caused a disturbance for no apparent reason,” Haryo said.
The incident prompted immigration officers to move her to Rudenim Denpasar.
The transfer was carried out by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Section of the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office on Monday (21 September) at around 12pm local time.
Balipuspanews reported that the handover took place after immigration officers completed the administrative examination process. FMMM was then formally transferred to Rudenim Denpasar, where she will remain while awaiting further immigration proceedings.
FMMM’s case is being handled under Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. The provision gives immigration officials the authority to impose administrative immigration measures on foreign nationals who engage in activities that are dangerous, are suspected of endangering public security or order, or fail to comply with Indonesian laws and regulations.
Immigration Reminds Foreign Nationals to Follow Indonesian Law
Haryo also expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the police and immigration authorities in handling the case.
“Every foreign national staying in Indonesia is required to comply with the laws and norms in force. We appreciate the police for acting quickly to secure the foreign national. Inter-agency cooperation such as this is very important so that the handling of foreign nationals who cause problems can be carried out safely, orderly and in accordance with regulations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ramdhani, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, reiterated the immigration authorities’ position on foreign nationals visiting the island.
“Every foreigner visiting Bali must respect the regulations in force. Every form of violation will be dealt with firmly to maintain security and protect Bali, while also providing legal certainty for the community as a manifestation of Immigration’s commitment to the people,” Ramdhani said.
FMMM has therefore been placed at Rudenim Denpasar while the immigration authorities continue with the next stage of the case. The authorities have not publicly provided further details about the disagreement at the hotel or the circumstances surrounding the subsequent disturbance at the immigration office.
