Immigration Deports US National for Holding Sexuality Retreat in Seminyak Without Proper Visa

The Ngurah Rai Special Class I Immigration Office has deported a 44-year-old American woman, identified by her initials JRG, after she was found to have misused her residence permit to organise a paid sexuality retreat in Bali.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Winarko, confirmed that the case came to light after his office received reports from the local community about suspicious activities taking place in the Seminyak area.

Following further investigation, officials discovered that JRG had been holding a private course, entitled the Intimacy Mastery Retreat, at a villa in the Kuta District, Badung.

“The deportation was carried out because the individual was proven to have abused their residence permit by organising a retreat (sex) class in Bali,” said Winarko in a press statement to national media.

According to Immigration, JRG had entered Bali on 4 September 2025 using a Visa on Arrival (VoA), which was valid until 4 October 2025. However, during her stay, she held a five-day programme, from 4 to 8 September, which offered paid classes on intimate relationships, emotional closeness, and sexual practices.

Sexuality Retreat: Discovery of Activities in Seminyak

Authorities revealed that JRG charged a significant fee for participation in the course. “She charged a hefty fee of US$6,997 for participants in the sex class. Converted to rupiah, the cost of the sex course was equivalent to Rp112,851,029 per person,” explained Winarko.

The retreat was marketed through a website and social media platforms, and was also promoted within her network of foreign nationals residing in Bali.

The official website listed the “regular room” package for US$6,997. At least six participants from various countries were recorded as attending the event.

“Based on the information on the website, the regular room price is listed as $6,997,” said Winarko.

During the programme, officials found photographic evidence of equipment associated with sexual activities. “During the activity, photos of equipment related to sexual activities were found,” Winarko added.

JRG was apprehended by the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on 16 September, while attempting to travel to Jakarta.

She was subsequently detained for questioning. After the investigation, authorities concluded that her activities contravened Indonesian immigration law.

“The total transaction value is still being investigated, but it is clear that this activity is business-oriented,” said Winarko.

Deportation Process

Officials determined that JRG had violated Article 75(1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. The regulation stipulates that foreign nationals who misuse their visas for business purposes without proper permits are subject to deportation.

JRG was expelled from Indonesia on 18 September 2025 via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Immigration emphasised that although she had entered legally, the use of a Visa on Arrival to conduct paid activities amounted to an abuse of her residence permit.

“The event (sex training) took place from 4 September to 8 September 2025 at a villa in Seminyak,” said Winarko.

Immigration officials underscored that Bali remains open to foreignw visitors but stressed that those who contravene visa regulations will face enforcement measures.
