Government Offers Up to 14% Discount on Airfare for Eid 2025

Share:

The Indonesian government has announced a special airfare discount of up to 14% for domestic economy flights during the Eid al-Fitr 2025 homecoming period.

This initiative aims to make travel more affordable for people returning to their hometowns for the celebrations. In addition to airfare discounts, the government is also reducing value-added tax (VAT) on tickets and introducing toll road discounts and free transportation programs.

Discount Details & Effective Dates

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), confirmed that the government is reducing airfare prices by 13-14%. Additionally, avtur (aviation fuel) prices have been cut at 37 airports nationwide to support this initiative.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi outlined the timeline for the discounted airfare:

  • Ticket purchase period: March 1 – April 7, 2025
  • Applicable flight dates: March 24 – April 7, 2025

“We want to ensure that people can enjoy more affordable and comfortable travel, especially during important moments such as Lebaran,” said Minister Dudy during a press conference at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on March 1, 2025.

Government Covers Part of the VAT on Tickets

To further ease travel costs, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced that the government will partially cover the VAT on domestic economy-class flight tickets. Under Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 18/2025, VAT on airfare has been reduced from 11% to 5%, with the government covering the remaining 6%.

“Based on this PMK, the VAT which was originally 11% is reduced so that people only pay 5%, while the remaining 6% is borne by the government. This regulation applies to tickets purchased from March 1 to April 7, 2025, with flight schedules between March 24 and April 7, 2025,” Sri Mulyani said, as reported by Tempo.

This move is expected to make air travel significantly cheaper for travellers during the festive season.

Additional Travel Incentives for Eid 2025

Apart from airfare discounts, the government is also introducing other travel incentives to make homecoming trips more affordable:

  • Toll road discounts: The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has introduced a 20% discount on toll fees for several major highways.
  • Free transportation program: The Ministry of Transportation and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) are providing free homecoming transport for 100,000 people via buses, trains, and ships.

“We want to ensure that this year’s homecoming trip can be more affordable for the community, not only through cheaper airline tickets but also with various other incentives,” said AHY.

To help travellers plan their trips, here is the official Lebaran 2025 holiday schedule, based on the Joint Decree (SKB) of three ministers:
