A collision between a long-distance train and a commuter line train at East Bekasi Station in West Java left 15 people dead, authorities confirmed.
The incident involved the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and a Cikarang-bound Commuter Line service. It occurred at around 9:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Air Marshal Muhammad Syafii, stated that all fatalities were adult women.
“I saw that there were no child victims, all of them were categorised as adult women,” he said during a press conference at East Bekasi Station on Tuesday, April 28.
Authorities completed the evacuation process on Tuesday morning. Syafii confirmed that all victims had been transported to hospitals for identification.
“At 8:00 a.m. WIB, the evacuation operation was completed. Our entire SAR team has returned to their respective home bases. I can confirm that we have found no victims,” he said.
Identification Process and Victim List
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that 15 people died in the accident. Senior Commissioner Dr Martinus Ginting, Head of the Medical and Health Division, said, “Yes, there are 15 victims who died,” during a briefing at Kramat Jati National Police Hospital in East Jakarta.
The identification process was carried out by the National Police Disaster Victim Identification team. Brigadier General Nyoman Eddy Purnama Wirawan, Head of the National Police Medical Centre, explained that both primary and secondary data were used.
“Identification was carried out using primary data, namely fingerprints, and secondary data, namely medical records and property or possessions,” he said.
Police released the names of the victims. At Kramat Jati National Police Hospital, the deceased were identified as Tutik Anitasari (31), Harum Anjasari (27), Nur Alimantun Citra Lestari (19), Farida Utami (50), Vica Acnia Fratiwi (23), Ida Nuraida (48), Gita Septia Wardany (20), Fatmawati Rahmayani (29), Arinjani Novita Sari (25), and Nur Ainia Eka Rahmadhyna (32).
At Bekasi City Hospital, the victims were identified as Nuryati (41), Nurlaela (39), and Enggar Retno Krisjayanti (35). One victim, Ristuti Tustirahato, was identified at Bella Bekasi Hospital.
Circumstances of the Incident
Initial information indicates that the commuter train may have struck a taxi at a railway crossing before the collision with the long-distance train. Authorities have not released further details on the sequence of events.
Witness accounts circulating on social media suggest that many passengers were returning home from work at the time of the incident. Reports also indicate that the front of the long-distance train struck the women-only carriage of the commuter train.
In addition to the fatalities, dozens of passengers were injured and are receiving treatment at hospitals in the Bekasi area. Authorities reported that all 240 passengers on board the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were unharmed.
