Two tourists, including a 56-year-old German national, remain missing following a landslide at Eco Park Pelaga Glamping Retreat in Pelaga Village, Petang District, Badung Regency, Bali. The joint search and rescue (SAR) operation continued on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, after the second day of searching yielded no results.
The missing individuals have been identified as Indonesian national Khairul Mubarok, 27, and German national Sascha Erich Schubery, 56. Both were reportedly staying in room 6 at the accommodation when the incident occurred.
Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, 3 November, that personnel from several agencies were continuing to search for the two tourists.
“The search is ongoing, and we are currently relying on manual tools because the operation at the Eco Park site presents significant challenges. Given the nature of the location and the fact that the hillside soil remains unstable, we must exercise extreme caution during the search,” Sidakarya said, as quoted by Media Indonesia.
He explained that the team had searched an area extending approximately 2.5 kilometres downstream from the incident site. Personnel were clearing river debris, including damaged structures, soil and other materials, using manual equipment.
“As of this afternoon, there have been no findings, and the joint team continues its search both in the river and at the site of the incident,” he added.
Heavy machinery has not been deployed because the access routes are narrow and steep, while the surrounding ground remains unstable. Instead, the team is using water pumps, hoes and other manual equipment to clear the affected areas.
Search Area to Be Expanded to 3.5 Kilometres
Sidakarya said the joint SAR operation would continue for up to seven days in accordance with established procedures.
“Hopefully, they can be found by the joint SAR team within seven days,” he said.
On Wednesday, 4 November, the operation was scheduled to resume at 07:00 WITA, with the search area expected to expand from 2.5 kilometres to 3.5 kilometres downstream.
“We are continuing to expand the search radius. It is currently 2.5 kilometres, and tomorrow we may extend it to 3.5 kilometres,” he said on Tuesday.
The operation involves 123 personnel from various agencies, supported by members of the local community.
Badung Police Public Relations Chief Police Inspector Ni Nyoman Yuni Eltari confirmed that the two missing individuals were men staying at the glamping site.
“The victims are two men who were staying in room 6,” she said.
She added that both remained the priority in the ongoing search and evacuation operation.
“Two individuals remain missing, and they are the priority for the ongoing search and evacuation operation,” she said.
Heavy Rain Triggered Landslide at Glamping Site
The landslide occurred at approximately 23:00 WITA on Sunday, 1 November 2026, following several hours of heavy rainfall in the area. Rain reportedly began at around 15:00 WITA and continued into the early hours of the following morning.
The landslide swept one glamping unit into the river below, while three other accommodation structures reportedly collapsed. The Head of the Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I Gede Teja, also confirmed that three villa units were destroyed and two people remained missing.
The incident site is located on a steep hillside beside a river, making access difficult for rescue personnel and equipment. Landslide debris has also obstructed parts of the access road.
Police said weather conditions and changes in the surrounding terrain would remain important considerations throughout the operation. Rescue personnel have been instructed to prioritise safety and remain alert to the possibility of further landslides and rising river levels.
