PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero), operating as InJourney Airports, is continuing its airport development programme this year with major upgrades at four airports across Indonesia, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The projects form part of the company’s ongoing transformation programme aimed at improving service quality, increasing passenger capacity and enhancing airport facilities.
“The essence of transformation is to keep moving and changing for the better. InJourney Airports’ transformation never stops; it is a continuous effort to improve service standards for airport visitors and airline passengers,” InJourney Airports President Director Mohammad R. Pahlevi said in a written statement on Thursday.
According to Pahlevi, developments at Indonesia’s two busiest airports — Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali — are expected to establish service benchmarks for other airports across the country.
“The services at these two airports can set a standard for other airports. The developments are aimed at improving service and comfort, as well as meeting global standards, thus boosting both airports’ positions on the list of the 100 best airports in the world,” he said.
Ngurah Rai Airport Expands Capacity and Improves Connectivity
At I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, development works are focused on the passenger terminal, with the aim of increasing annual passenger capacity to 32 million. The latest phase follows previous landside expansion projects, with further airside capacity improvements planned after the terminal upgrades are completed.
The renovation includes optimisation of the international departure piers serving Gates 1 to 9. Works cover the construction of connecting piers, landscaping improvements, expanded boarding seating areas and enhancements to public facilities.
Supporting facilities are also being revitalised, including the semi-outdoor commercial area, check-in facilities and departure gates.
In addition, construction is underway on a connecting bridge linking the Domestic Terminal and International Terminal. The facility is intended to simplify transfers for passengers with connecting flights.
“Optimization at the international departure gate will further enhance passenger comfort, as will the addition of a connecting bridge between the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal, which provides a dedicated lane for passengers with connecting flights. This will reduce check-in times,” Pahlevi said.
Soekarno-Hatta, Minangkabau and Depati Amir Receive Facility Upgrades
At Soekarno-Hatta Airport, development efforts include the continued refurbishment of Terminal 3 and the revitalisation of Terminal 1A.
Terminal 3 improvements cover commercial tenant facades in the departure area, boarding gates, check-in areas and public facilities, including restrooms in both arrival and departure zones.
Additional amenities, including a game corner, are also being added to the international departure lounge.
Meanwhile, Terminal 1A is undergoing a major transformation designed to improve passenger flow and modernise facilities.
“After the revitalization, Terminal 1A has a new look, with significantly improved service standards, supported by more comprehensive and modern facilities for a seamless journey experience,” Pahlevi said.
Following the upgrades, Terminal 1A’s annual passenger capacity will increase from 5.7 million to 10 million.
The number of check-in counters will rise from 25 to 36, while baggage claim conveyor belts will increase from five to seven, enabling the simultaneous handling of up to 3,500 pieces of luggage.
The commercial area will also expand from approximately 4,400 square metres to 6,300 square metres.
Beyond the two major hubs, InJourney Airports is also expanding facilities at Minangkabau Airport in Padang and Depati Amir Airport in Pangkalpinang.
At Minangkabau Airport, a new terminal covering around 47,000 square metres is being developed, increasing annual capacity from 2.7 million passengers to 5.7 million. The expansion includes domestic and international arrival areas, boarding lounges, commercial facilities and landscaping improvements.
Depati Amir Airport is similarly expanding its terminal to 30,000 square metres. Once completed, passenger capacity will double from 1.5 million to 3 million annually. The project includes upgrades to the check-in area, security screening facilities, commercial spaces, terminal landscaping and interior improvements.
“InJourney Airports, as the operator of 37 airports, is committed to improving services at all airports to enhance customer service,” Pahlevi concluded.
