A six-year-old Indonesian girl has died following a car accident in Singapore’s Chinatown area, police confirmed on Sunday, 8 February 2026. A 38-year-old female driver has been arrested on suspicion of reckless driving causing death.
The Singapore Police Force said the arrest was made after an accident involving a car and two pedestrians on South Bridge Road. The incident occurred near the entrance and exit of a car park close to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a popular tourist site in the area.
According to police, the accident took place at about 11:50 a.m. local time on Friday, 6 February. Singaporean media outlet Channel News Asia reported that the driver was taken into custody after initial investigations.
Police previously stated that the driver had been assisting with inquiries. Further investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
Mother and Daughter Were Indonesian Tourists
Singapore police said two female pedestrians, aged six and 31, were taken to hospital in a conscious condition after the collision. However, the six-year-old girl later died while receiving treatment. The woman, identified as the child’s mother, remains hospitalised with serious injuries.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that both victims were transported to Singapore General Hospital following the incident.
Chinese-language media outlet Lianhe Zaobao reported that the victims were Indonesian tourists visiting Singapore. The report identified them as a mother and daughter travelling as part of a family group.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the child’s father was walking ahead at the time of the accident while pushing a stroller carrying their two-year-old child. The mother and six-year-old girl were walking behind when they were struck.
The Straits Times also reported that police received a call about a traffic accident involving a car and two pedestrians at around 11:50 a.m. Both victims were conscious when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
An eyewitness, who claimed to be walking directly behind the victims, shared his account on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page. He stated that the car was exiting a parking area next to the temple when it hit the pedestrians. Police have not publicly commented on the eyewitness account.
