Wild Leopard Enters a Hotel in Indonesia, Evacuated After Three Hours

A leopard entered the Anugerah Hotel on Jalan Padasaluyu, Sukasari District, Bandung City, on Monday morning. The evacuation process lasted three hours as officers worked carefully to capture the animal without harm.

Sukasari Police Chief Commissioner Ni Wayan Mirasni said the leopard was first reported at around 7:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). “The leopard was on the second floor, in front of a hotel room,” she told SindoNews.

“The evacuation was quite complicated because of its location on the upper floor.”

A joint team from the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA), the police, and the Bandung City Fire and Disaster Management Agency (Diskar PB) was deployed to the scene.

The officers set up nets and used tranquilliser darts to subdue the animal safely before moving it into a metal cage.

“The leopard was tranquilised to calm it and prevent it from becoming aggressive during the evacuation process,” Commissioner Ni Wayan explained. Once secured, the animal was taken to the ground floor and then transported under the supervision of BBKSDA officers.

The Leopard Origin Under Investigation

The West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) said it has not confirmed whether the leopard was the same animal that previously escaped from the Lembang Park and Zoo in West Bandung.

West Java BBKSDA Public Relations Officer Eri Mildranaya stated that the agency was still investigating the animal’s origin.

“So, we can’t confirm whether it’s the same leopard or a similar type. We can’t be sure yet,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

According to Eri, the distance between Lembang Park and Zoo and the Sukasari area is around five to six kilometres, crossing plantations and residential zones.

“It must have entered through community areas and plantations, so we can’t speculate further about the animal’s origin,” he added.

He also noted that the leopard’s stress level could influence its behaviour. “After all, this is a wild animal, and it will experience stress just like us,” he said.

Leopard to Be Rehabilitated in Sukabumi

Following observation, the leopard will be taken to the Cikananga Animal Rescue Centre (PPSC) in Sukabumi, West Java.

“It will be observed first, but will be taken to the Cikananga PPSC as soon as possible,” Eri confirmed.

Authorities suspect that poaching activity in the northern Bandung forest area may have driven the Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas) out of its natural habitat. The animal was discovered inside the long-disused Anugerah Hotel building in Isola Village, Sukasari, early Monday (6/10/2025) morning.
