37 Airports Open 24 Hours During Eid: Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport Closes for Nyepi

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) has confirmed that the 37 airports under its management are fully prepared to accommodate travellers during Eid 2025.

Throughout the Eid al-Fitr 2025 homecoming period, 37 airports will operate 24 hours a day.

“To ensure the smooth running of Lebaran transportation, we have prepared all airports for 24-hour operation. This will allow airlines to optimise flight schedules, as airports that normally operate for just 9 hours a day will now be available for 24 hours, thereby increasing the number of flights,” said InJourney Airports President Director Faik Fahmi, as quoted by ANTARA.

He explained that this rare 24-hour airport operation is part of InJourney Airports’ commitment to providing the highest level of service to passengers travelling home for Lebaran 2025.

Additionally, the total number of airline passengers across these 37 airports during the Eid transportation period is projected to reach 10.8 million, representing a 9.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

Despite Increased Travel During Eid, Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali Closes for Nyepi

While airports across Indonesia are set to experience a surge in passengers during the Eid homecoming period, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali will remain closed for 24 hours on the Holy Day of Nyepi, which falls on Saturday, 29th March 2025.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, Faik Fahmi, emphasised that all flights to and from Bali will be suspended during Nyepi.

“This decision aligns with the long-standing tradition of respecting the peace and solemnity of the Holy Day of Silence on the Island of the Gods,” he stated.

Ngurah Rai Airport will be closed from Saturday, 29th March 2025, at 6:00 a.m. until Sunday, 30th March 2025, at 6:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the number of passengers passing through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport during the Lebaran holiday is expected to reach 1.4 million, with approximately 8,700 aircraft movements.

To accommodate the increased demand, Ngurah Rai Airport will establish a dedicated post for Lebaran travellers, which will operate for 22 days, from 21st March to 11th April 2025.

The airport has also received additional flight schedules to accommodate the surge in passengers during the 2025 Lebaran holiday, with 401 extra flights planned from airlines including Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Wings Air, Garuda Indonesia, NAM Air, TransNusa, and Pelita Air.

The decision to close the airport is of particular significance, as Nyepi in 2025 falls just two days before Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to occur on 31st March 2025. During Eid, Bali typically experiences an influx of domestic tourists.

Faik Fahmi advised travellers planning to visit Bali to carefully consider their departure schedules.

“We recommend that those wishing to travel to Bali avoid arriving two days before Lebaran. Instead, it would be best to travel either before or during the Eid holiday, after Nyepi has concluded,” he said.
