Bali Mandara Toll Road Closed for ‘Nyepi’ Day, Set to Reopen on 12th March 2024

The Bali Mandara toll road has officially announced its closure for 32 hours during the ‘Nyepi’ holiday, scheduled for Monday, 11th March 2024. Operations will cease on Sunday, 10th March 2024, at 11 PM and open on Tuesday, 12th March 2024, at 7 AM.

Nyepi holds significant importance for Hindus in Bali, prompting PT Jasamarga Bali Tol to extend its support and respect for this sacred observance. However, emergency access will still be available on the Bali Mandara toll road for essential services such as fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles.

“Throughout Nyepi, vigilant officers will remain stationed to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles,” stated Wayan Eka Saputra, Finance Director of PT Jasamarga Bali Tol I, as quoted by Antara News. “All activities will strictly adhere to established procedures and will not contravene the standard operating procedures or ‘awig-awig’ (village regulations).”

Jasa Marga Bali Toll issued an official announcement on their Instagram account, emphasizing, “Although the Bali Mandara Toll Road will be temporarily closed as scheduled, it will remain accessible for emergencies. PT JBT advises drivers of emergency vehicles to ensure they are accompanied by designated drivers or relevant authorities following the prescribed SOP.”

The 2024 Nyepi observance coincides with the beginning of the Ramadan fast for Muslims in Bali. The Bali government has urged all Muslim communities in the region to conduct Tarawih prayers at their homes to uphold interfaith harmony.

Similar to previous Nyepi observances, outdoor activities and the use of lights or fires are prohibited during this time. Bali will observe a day of darkness and tranquillity, devoid of human activity.
