Indonesian Immigration Corner: Bali Tourism Statistic, Italian Tourists Surge in August 2023

Bali welcomed a notable surge in international tourists from Italy in August 2023, recording a total of 20,871 arrivals. This figure represents a sharp increase of 156.75% compared to July 2023.

“Citing the actual influx of Italian tourists to Bali, which, although not breaking into the top five in terms of nationalities visiting Bali, has risen by 156.75% compared to July 2023,” I Made Agus Adnyana, Chairman of the Statistical Distribution Team at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Province stated on the official YouTube account of BPS Bali, as reported by kompas.com on Monday (16/10).

Previously, there were 8,129 Italian tourist arrivals on the Island of the Gods in July 2023. However, Australian tourists maintained their top position in Bali in August 2023.

The following list concludes the top five nationalities with the most visits to Bali:

  1. Australia
  2. India
  3. France
  4. China
  5. United Kingdom

Australian tourists topped the list with a total of 120,467 visits. As reported by Kompas.com on Saturday (9/9), Kangaroo Nation tourists were also at the forefront in July 2023 with 132,939 visits.

Despite holding the top position, there was a decrease in the number of Australian tourist visits from July 2023 to August 2023 by 9.38%. A decline was also observed in some countries in the top five, namely India and China.

The number of Indian tourist visits to Bali in August 2023 was 33,424, a decrease of 18.16% compared to July 2023.

Meanwhile, the number of Chinese tourist visits in August 2023 was 30,342, representing a decrease of 17.26% compared to July 2023.

On the contrary, there was an increase in the number of French and British tourist visits to Bali in August 2023.

“Among the top five nationalities, those experiencing an increase are tourists from France, up by 11.10 per cent or 31,979 visits, and those from the UK also increased by 4.11 per cent with a total of 28,021 visits,” explained Agus Adnyana.

Looking at the regions, the number of tourist visits from Europe and Africa increased. There were 169,230 European tourist visits to Bali, up by 6.64% compared to July 2023. Additionally, there were 5,767 African tourist visits to Bali in August 2023, showing an increase of 6.74%. However, tourists from Oceania, Asia, ASEAN, the United States, and the Middle East experienced declines in August 2023 compared to July 2023, by 9.34%, 6.23%, 0.76%, 16.97%, and 27.17%, respectively.
