Indian National Dies After Falling From Nusa Penida Cliff

On Saturday, the 4th of March 2023, an Indian national drowned after falling into the water while posing for a picture on Nusa Penida Cliff, Broken Beach, East of Bali. Abhishek Bathia died on Saturday, the 4th of March, after falling from a 40-meter-high cliff at the Broken Beach tourism destination in Bunga Mekar, Nusa Penida, according to Gede Dharma, the head of the National Search and Rescue (Basarnas) Bali branch.

Gede reported that the event occurred around 4:20 Central Time (WITA). The victim’s corpse was found by the Basarnas squad the same day the incident occurred. At least two hours were spent on the evacuation procedure, which included teams from Basarnas, Nusa Penida Police, the military, the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Klungkung), and Gema Shanti Public Hospital.

“After a two-hour evacuation procedure, the victim’s corpse was eventually evacuated at 8:30 p.m.,” Darmada said, adding that the victim’s body was promptly taken to Gema Shanti Public Hospital. Cakra Negara, the head of Basarnas Bali’s Nusa Penida section, claimed that the victim stood for a picture when the event occurred. According to Cakra Negara, the deceased spent the time he was waiting for his companion taking pictures of the scenery and posing for pictures.

“While standing on the cliff’s brink waiting for his buddy, his driver snapped pictures of him”. Cakra Negara said, “But he stumbled and fell into the Nusa Penida Cliff. Visitors and the management of tourism attractions were encouraged by Darmada to be aware of any potential safety risks. Basarnas has noted several instances where tourists have perished after plunging into ravines, particularly in the Nusa Penida Cliff.

Basarnas has documented numerous tourists dying after falling into ravines, particularly in the Nusa Penida. Domestic tourists from North Sulawesi also fell off the precipice in Broken Beach in November 2022. Although the 25-year-old Alvalindo Kesanda was saved, he was severely injured. In 2018, a Chinese foreigner visiting Nusa Lembongan, another island in Nusa Penida, died after falling from a cliff while trying to snap a selfie.
