Four Indian tourists were involved in a theft incident at a resort in Ubud, Bali, which was later resolved without legal action.
The case took place at Asvara Resort Ubud, located in Kelusa Village, Payangan District, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia.
Ipda I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, Head of Public Relations for the Gianyar Police, confirmed the timeline of the incident.
“The incident occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA) at the Asvara Resort Ubud,” he said to detikBali on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
According to police information, the guests were four foreign nationals from India. They had been staying at the resort since April 16, 2026, and had booked two rooms during their visit.
The incident gained attention after a video circulated on social media and went viral. The footage showed a hotel staff member checking the contents of a guest’s suitcase. Several hotel items were allegedly found inside.
Missing Items Discovered During Check-Out
The case was first identified during the guests’ check-out process. Housekeeping staff reported missing items from the rooms after conducting routine checks.
“Items reported missing included coasters, bath towels, pool towels, a hair dryer, a kimono, a doormat, a television remote control, and even tableware,” Suardita said.
Following the discovery, the staff informed hotel management. The management then decided to delay the check-out process to clarify the situation with the guests.
During the inspection, hotel staff found several of the missing items in the guests’ luggage. The situation was handled directly between the hotel and the guests at the property.

Case Resolved Without Legal Action
According to the police, the guests admitted to taking the items without permission. They also issued an apology to the hotel management.
“The issue was then resolved amicably. All the items taken were returned, and the hotel decided not to pursue legal action,” Suardita said.
No further legal steps were taken following the resolution. The case was closed after both parties reached an agreement.
The Gianyar Police confirmed that the matter did not proceed to formal investigation, as the hotel chose to settle the issue internally. Authorities did not provide additional details beyond the statements given.
