Even though Indonesia is already known in the world, there are still many foreigners who do not really know about the fact that Indonesia has its own airlines. Well, this time we will discuss airlines that have an Air Operator Certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Indonesia.

In Indonesia, there are two different forms of AOC: AOC 121 and AOC 135. Commercial scheduled airlines with more than 30 passengers are under AOC 121. Commercial scheduled airlines with fewer than 30 passengers and chartered flights are under AOC 135. Additionally, there are 32 AOC 135 holders and 22 AOC 121 holders too. Here below are listed Indonesian national airlines that you should know.

Garuda Indonesia

The national airline of Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, is based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. It is a SkyTeam member and, after Lion Air, the second-largest airline in Indonesia. It operates regular flights from its hubs, focus cities, and other cities for the Hajj to a variety of locations around Asia, Europe, and Australia. This concept was abandoned and replaced with a feeder for Sriwijaya Air that followed the model of Lion Air’s current Wings Air and Garuda Indonesia’s Merpati in the 1990s. NAM Air serves its auxiliary routes, while Sriwijaya Air services its primary routes.

Sriwijaya Air

Sriwijaya Air is regarded as a medium-service airline that serves a snack during their flight. As of 2015, Sriwijaya Air reopening of several previously closed routes, including Bandung and Pekanbaru, even though NAM Air currently runs these routes, not Sriwijaya Air. NAM Air and Sriwijaya Air are the only airlines in Indonesia that, as of November 2015 (for NAM Air since its formation in 2013), allow female flight attendants to wear the hijab on all scheduled flights. They are also among the few airlines in Southeast Asia that do so.
