Getting ready before arriving

Pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days prior to arrival, or they must have received the shot within the preceding 12 months.

Obtaining a letter from the Ministry of Agriculture authorizing the importation of a pet into Indonesia is the first step.

Requirement Letter

You must provide the following details about the animal:

  1. Species
  2. Name
  3. Gender
  4. Appearance
  5. Additional traits

The following papers must be shown upon arrival in Indonesia:

  • Health certificate from a veterinarian within five days of the animal’s departure
  • Proof of rabies vaccination from a veterinarian
  • Copy of owner’s passport

Microchip

An ISO Standard 11784 microchip or an Annex A to ISO Standard 11785 microchip must be implanted in a pet. The owner must have the scanner for the chip on them if the pet is not fitted with the mentioned chip.

Animal containers

When you import your pet by yourself or ship by a professional mover, you need to note that the containers must have some requirements below:

  • meet IATA specifications
  • be made of standard plastic
  • be big enough for the pet
  • be ventilated
  • have food and water containers

Quarantine

Quarantine officials should be notified one week before the pet’s arrival. Within five days of arrival in Jakarta, the following paperwork needs to be received from a certified veterinarian in the country of origin:

  • Vaccination record for rabies from an authorized veterinarian in the origin country
  • Veterinary health certificate from the origin country

You also need to prepare the following details to meet the requirement for quarantine:

  • Import recommendations from Provincial Animal Breeding Services in the destination region
  • Approval from the Directorate of Animal Health and the Directorate General of Animal Breeding

You will get the import permit issued by The Directorate of Animal Health and the animal will be released after the required 14-day quarantine period.
