Dieng Plateau Experiences Sub-Zero Temperatures Again

Share:

The Dieng Plateau, a stunning landscape known for its volcanic craters and temples, is experiencing another frosty spell. Temperatures in the region have dipped below 0 degrees Celsius, causing frost to form on vegetation and creating a captivating, yet chilly, spectacle. The factor  is because there are  no objects that block sunlight or vice versa. Namely when radiation is radiated back from the earth’s surface at night.

According to  The BMKG (Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics), this phenomenon isn’t new for Dieng. Indonesia, a tropical nation by definition, sees pockets of highlands experience freezing temperatures, particularly during the dry season (June to August). The Dieng Plateau’s high elevation contributes to the drop in temperature as air pressure decreases with altitude.

While the sight of frost-covered landscapes is a beautiful reminder of nature’s diversity, authorities urge caution. Tourists visiting the area should be prepared for the cold with proper clothing.

While reports of the exact temperature and duration of this frosty episode are unavailable at this time, previous occurrences in 2022 and 2023 saw nights reaching -3.5°C and the phenomenon lasting up to ten days.

So, for those looking for a unique Indonesian experience, bundled up and ready to brave the chill, the Dieng Plateau’s frosty embrace might be an unforgettable adventure.
