An Ukrainian Arrested for Alleged Theft at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport

The Ngurah Rai Airport Regional Police revealed the chronology of an Ukrainian national with the initials GI (33) who stole three suitcases belonged to other passengers at the Arrivals Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Badung, Bali.

The Ukrainian woman was caught taking three pieces of luggage belonging to a passenger at the Lost and Found Counter of the International Arrival Terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Tuban, Badung, Bali, on Friday, 21st of July 2023.

The suspect took the suitcases from 03.00 WITA to 06.00 WITA. It is known that the bags’ owners were foreign tourists who had just landed in Bali and were planning to vacation on the Island of the Gods.

“The three passengers who own the suitcase are Wu Jiehao, Zampeli/Afroditi and another passenger who doesn’t want to be identified,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Iptu Rionson Ritonga in a press release last week.

Ronson revealed that the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Area Police received a report from PT Gapura employees regarding the loss of luggage belonging to three passengers at the Lost and Found counter of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport International Arrival Terminal.

After receiving the report, Satreskrim and the Garuda Bhuana Operational Team conducted an investigation, includes the CCTV checking at the location where the item was lost. From the result of CCTV observations, it was seen that a foreigner took the victims’ belongings.

The perpetrator allegedly stayed at a hotel in Uluwatu, Badung, Bali. The police officers rushed to the perpetrator’s inn to arrest herl. However, the hotel employee said GI had checked out the day before.

After that, the operational team searched the hotel where GI was staying and found a damaged grey suitcase with its contents scattered.

“Our operational team continued to chase the perpetrator. At around noon, the police managed to find the Ukrainian citizen with the initials GI passport number PU28xxxx at a hotel in the Pecatu area, South Kuta. The perpetrator and evidence were immediately taken to the Ngurah Rai Airport Police office for further investigation,” said Rionson.
