Indonesia’s young pastry talents have made their mark at one of Asia’s regional pastry competitions, bringing home two notable achievements from the 4th Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge 2026 in Guangzhou, China.
The Indonesian team, selected, prepared and sent to the competition by Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts (APCA) Indonesia, won The Best Showpiece and 2nd Highest Score – Gold Medal at the competition held in Guangzhou.
Among the teams receiving Gold Medals, Indonesia recorded the second-highest score, placing behind Singapore and ahead of South Korea.

The Best Showpiece award highlighted the Indonesian team’s creative and artistic approach to pastry. Beyond technical execution, the category also recognises elements such as craftsmanship, precision, composition and presentation.
The achievement adds another milestone to Indonesia’s participation in the Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge, a regional competition that brings together young pastry talents from across Asia.
For aspiring pastry chefs, competitions such as this offer more than the opportunity to win medals. They provide a chance to work under pressure, test technical skills against international standards and learn from participants from different culinary backgrounds.
For APCA Indonesia, sending young Indonesian chefs to international competitions is part of a broader approach to professional development. The institution focuses on practical education, mentorship, competition preparation and international exposure to help students and young professionals understand the expectations of the global culinary industry.
The Young Indonesian Pastry Talents Behind the Achievement
According to Chef Louis Tanuhadi, President of APCA Indonesia, international competitions play an important role in preparing young chefs for professional careers.
“We believe young talents cannot be trained only in the classroom. They need the opportunity to go out, compete, see the standards of other countries and test their abilities in real competition situations. The Asian Pastry Young Chefs Challenge is one important platform for us to take Indonesian talents to the next level.”
He added that the focus extends beyond winning awards.
“From year to year, APCA Indonesia is committed to selecting, preparing and sending Indonesia’s best talents to this event and various other international competitions. Achievements such as The Best Showpiece and 2nd Highest Score Gold Medal are certainly something to be proud of, but the bigger goal is to build a generation of Indonesian pastry chefs who are disciplined, confident, creative and able to work to international standards.”
The competition experience is designed to complement classroom learning. Through intensive training and mentorship, participants can develop not only their technical abilities but also discipline, confidence, resilience and the ability to perform under pressure.
These experiences can be particularly valuable in pastry, where precision, consistency and attention to detail are central to the craft.
