Tree Collapse in Bali’s Monkey Forest Injures Several Tourists

Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds during this week have caused disastrous events in various regions in Bali, one of which is falling trees.

Most recently, a fallen tree occurred in the Monkey Forest Tourism Object area, Padangtegal Village, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

From the Instagram account @canggubalinews it appears that the tree crashed. The incident reportedly resulted in several people who were in the tourist attraction area being injured.

As reported by Tribun Bali, the tree that fell was an old tree. When it fell down, a number of tourists were seen walking under it.

The people scattered, but some people took the wrong step, so branches hit them.

Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Gianyar, I Gusti Ngurah Dibya Presasta said the exact number of victims is still unknown.

However, he received reports that several people were injured.

“Information on a number of injured people. Earlier we had communicated with the PMI ambulance to go to the Monkey Forest Ubud location,” he told the Tribune.

Until now there is no official information on exactly how many people were injured. The Bali Post reported that the falling tree killed two foreign tourists: Justine Christine from France and Kim Hyoeun from South Korea.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Gianyar Police, AKP M Gananta when met at the Bali Police Cyber Investigation Directorate Office, Denpasar, Bali, confirmed this.

“There are two foreign victims, from Korea and France, both male,” said AKP M Gananta, as reported by Tribun.

The Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has also coordinated with the Gianyar Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) ambulance to evacuate several people who were injured.

Fallen tree in Bali occur in several areas

The Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Made Rentin, conveyed data on disaster incidents and handling carried out by the BPBD of Bali Province and BPBDs throughout Bali in the last 24 hours until Monday, December 9, 2024 at 6 p.m.

“There were fallen trees at 44 (forty-four) points, namely 13 (thirteen) points in Karangasem Regency, 5 (five) points in Jembrana Regency, 8 (eight) points in Tabanan Regency, 2 (two) points in Badung Regency, 3 (three) points in Bangli Regency, 9 (nine) points in Gianyar Regency and 4 (four) points in Buleleng Regency,” Rentin detailed in his press statement to media, Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
