After receiving warm reviews for his 2024 Olympic uniforms, designer Didit Hediprasetyo returned to present the range of uniforms that the Indonesian athletes’ team would wear at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

A day before the event, which is predicted to be witnessed by billions of pairs of eyes around the world, the appearance of the uniform appeared in the latest upload on @timindonesiaofficial, the official Instagram account of the Indonesian team for international sports events.

This time, the Indonesian athlete contingent will wear traditional Javanese clothes, which can be seen from the kebayas and backup models worn by the models.

Reportedly, the design of the Indonesian contingent’s uniform was inspired by the figure of Javanese painter Raden Saleh.

To present the uniform was the famous fashion photographer Davy Linggar. Acting as models in this photo shoot include two Indonesian swimming athletes who will compete in the Olympics, Joe Aditya and Zahra Permatahani, Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent Anindya Bakrie, as well as two well-known actors, namely Nicholas Saputra and Marissa Anita.

The uniform consists of a beskap (traditional Javanese shirt) style shirt for men and a kebaya kutubaru style as a top for women. Both are paired with white trousers.

The denim-like material for the beskap gives a modern impression, coupled with a red-and-white stripe as an asymmetrical accentuation on the right sleeve.

Additional accessories include a black leather blangkon and matching slippers that create an edgy impression on the men’s appearance.

The women had two versions of tops, one of which was made from velvet and exuded an elegant and luxurious aura. Unlike the men, the pants were chic wide-leg pants.

The women’s attire looks stylish with high-waist pants that are on trend. They are also wearing traditional slippers as footwear.

It was mentioned that Didit was inspired by Raden Saleh, a Javanese painter from the 19th century whose name is famous worldwide.

The painter’s work even adorns the walls of the Rijksmuseum and Louvre.

This is not the first time the Indonesian contingent has worn traditional clothing during the opening of the Olympics.

At the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympics, the Indonesian contingent wore Lampung traditional clothes.

Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony of the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, Indonesian surfer Rio Waida wore traditional Balinese Payas clothes.
