529,109 domestic and foreign tourists celebrated New Year’s Eve at the National Monument in Central Jakarta, where they witnessed a vibrant fireworks display and an impressive video mapping show.

The DKI Jakarta government organized the Jakarta Carnival (Jakarnaval), themed “Indonesian Legend Intellectual Property,” featuring a series of dynamic events. The Jakarta National Monument area sparkled with decorative lights and creations by the nation’s children, including Sri Asih, Si Juki, Si Unyil, Si Buta from Goa Hantu, and Satria Dewa Gatotkaca.

Between 8 PM and 12 AM, Jakarta government data revealed that out of the 529,109 visitors, there were 446,418 adults, 82,683 children, and 8 foreign tourists.

On 31st December 2023, the Jakarta government concentrated its New Year celebrations on three focal points: the HI Roundabout area, the National Monument, and the TMII area. The entire city of Jakarta sparkled with fireworks, as hundreds of thousands of people joyously welcomed 2024.

This figure represents a remarkable increase compared to previous years. In 2022, the number of tourists attending various New Year celebrations in Jakarta was only in the tens of thousands.

The community’s high enthusiasm was met with adequate transportation arrangements. During the 2024 New Year’s Eve celebration, the Jakarta government extended the operating hours of various public transportation modes like the MRT, KRL, LRT, and TransJakarta to facilitate people’s movement to and from Jakarta.

However, despite the successful event, there are still tasks pending for the Jakarta government post the 2024 New Year celebrations. The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service collected a total of 130 tons of waste in the early hours of 1st January 2024. To manage this, 3,180 cleaners were deployed in four consecutive shifts during the New Year’s Eve festivities at the National Monument and several other locations.
