National Army Commander Admiral Yudo Margono and National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the personnel securing the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta were ready to anticipate the vulnerabilities with the complexities that exist in the Capital City.

“Yes, so all threats, both internal and external, we have anticipated all, including cyber threats; there are BSSN and all cyber TNI and Polri, we have prepared everything, we anticipate, including threats from outside, there are warships; there are fighter planes that we have prepare,” said TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono after the call to hold the Security Forces of the 43rd ASEAN Summit at Silang Monas, Jakarta, Friday.

The TNI formed a Joint Security Task Force Command (Kogasgab PAM) with a personnel strength of 13,158 people to secure the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the National Police conducted Operation Tri Brata Jaya 2023, a security operation involving a combined force of 6,182 personnel from the Police Headquarters, Polda Metro Jaya, with assistance from the West Java Police and the Banten Police.

The former Naval Chief of Staff stated that, in addition to personnel, the TNI had prepared security system tools (alutsista) on land, at sea, and in the air so that, while security is being implemented in the city, both sea and air security is on alert for outer perimeter security.

“We carry out physical security in this city, but we also continue to prepare defence equipment, both at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, then air at Halim Perdanakusuma, then in Makassar, then in North Java, with the navy, KRI, and troops. Particularly there,” Yudo stated.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief Gen. Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo stressed that the complexity of Jakarta as the nation’s capital, the centre of the economy, and the centre of government must be understood by all security personnel involved in order for the 43rd ASEAN Summit to run concurrently with community activities.

“Conduct good public communication so the public would understand that the success of the 43rd ASEAN Summit will have a multiplier effect on Indonesia’s stability, peace, and prosperity in the ASEAN region and around the world,” Sigit said.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit will face complex vulnerabilities such as traffic jams, various dynamics of community activities, political situations, cyber threats, terrorism threats, and threats to the safety of delegates.

The TNI-Polri have previously secured international events such as the G-20 Summit in Bali and the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

However, the former National Police Criminal Investigation Officer reminded all personnel involved to remain alert and prepared for potential threats, no matter how minor, ranging from demonstrations and traffic disruptions to terrorism and natural disasters.

“Ensure that all personnel understand the tasks and actions that have been planned. As a form of inherent supervision and control, the leadership must intervene directly.” Sigit stated.
