Indonesia Predicts 27 Million Cars & 25 Million Motorcycles to Travel During Eid Homecoming

According to a survey by the Transportation Policy Agency, this year’s Eid homecoming of people returning to their hometowns for Idul Fitri is anticipated to involve 27.32 million private cars and 25.13 million motorcycles. Separately, the government expects 123.8 million travellers who return home for Eid. Regarding price and mobility, motorcycles remain a popular choice for travellers, according to Djoko Setijowarno, Deputy Head of the Indonesia Transportation Society (MTI).

They can get around quickly to their hometowns, which is impossible to achieve with public transportation, and if they don’t have access to vehicles at their hometown.” Djoko, a professor of structural engineering at Semarang’s Soegijapranata University in Central Java, stated.

Djoko requests that the government outright forbid parents from using motorbikes to carry their children during Eid homecoming. He argued that the government should prohibit them instead of just making recommendations.

He claimed that numerous initiatives had been taken to discourage the use of motorcycles during the Eid homecoming, such as expanding the availability of public transportation, enhancing the state of the roads, and offering free Eid homecoming excursions.

However, Djoko lamented that the number of motorcycle mishaps has yet to be lowered despite government efforts. According to estimates made at the time, 85 million individuals went home for Eid the previous year, using an estimated 23 million cars and 17 million motorcycles.

According to data from the Transportation Ministry, only about 11 million Eid homecoming passengers used buses and trains in 2017. Separately, Insp. Gen. Ahmad Luthfi, the head of Central Java Police, predicted that the region would welcome 4.5 million people home.

He continued, “The Eid homecoming [levels] this year will return to pre-pandemic levels.” In addition to deploying 20,339 police personnel over the holiday season, the Central Java Police intends to put up 254 service and protection posts.
