18th October 2022 – Indonesia targets 3,6 million foreign tourists for the end of 2022, according to the government. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) predicted to achieve the initial target of 1,8 million foreign tourists for 2022 in early September.

The number came from January to August 2022. BPS also explained that there is an increase in foreign tourist visits by up to 2,028 percent compared to January-August 2021.

In August 2022 alone, the data showed that there are 510,000 foreign tourists visiting.

According to the data from BPS, there are five nationalities that visit Indonesia the most. Those countries are Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and the United States.

To achieve the 3,6 million foreign tourists goal by the end of 2022, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, emphasized the importance of prioritizing quality in tourism and support more international flights

Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy encourages the accessibility of flights to Indonesia in order for amenities, accommodations, and attractions can be improved. Including providing Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability or CHSE certificates for tourist destinations that have not yet received them.

Regarding the accessibility to Indonesia, the Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), Nia Niscaya said that the volume of search about Indonesia in several countries is quite high.

This data is obtained from the Amadeus Global Distribution System, which collects data from various online and offline travel agents such as airlines. The most search volume came from the United States, Australia, England, Germany, and French.

The Amadeus Data reported that there are 261 million searches about Indonesia in America. Australia comes next with 187 million searches and Britain with 160 million searches, followed by Germany and French.

“There is a high intensity from a couple of markets with no direct flights to Indonesia. This indicates that the perception of Indonesia is already in the market,” said Niscaya.
