When you’re in a rush, the convenience store is the best place to go since they have almost everything and anything you need. It’s not different in Indonesia, most convenience store not only sells food, and daily necessities but sometimes hot and microwaveable meals that you can get on the go. Some also act as a hang-out spot too. Curious about which convenience stores are available throughout Indonesia, check these out!

Indomaret

One of the most common convenience stores in Indonesia. In Indomaret, you can top up your e-wallet, pay bills, top-up prepay, and others. Plus, if you go to their Indomaret Point, you’ll be able to find some ready-to-serve hot meals and freshly brewed coffee and drinks too. Plus, they also prepare some chairs for you to hang out or work on if necessary. You can practically find Indomaret everywhere, they have over 18,000 stores across Indonesia so you don’t have to worry about not finding one near where you are.

Alfamart

When you find Indomaret, there won’t be an Alfamart store not far away. The locals believed that Alfamart and Indomaret are rivals, thus why it’s no surprise to find some of their stores right beside each other. It has over 17,000 stores across Indonesia and about 1,00 stores in the Philippines. Other than the convenience store, you can find smaller or bigger stores like Alfamidi and Alfa Express—which offers more ready-to-eat meals and mini-café.

Family Mart

Family Mart is a Japanese convenience store, which is the second-largest convenience store brand in Japan. Different from the one you might find in Japan, Family Mart offers several hot meals like fried chicken and rice combo, shumai, and steamed buns. They also have several varieties of onigiri and salad for you to choose from at an affordable price.

Lawson

Like Family Mart, Lawson originates from Japan and it’s currently one of the trendiest convenience stores in Indonesia. They serve hot food and a place for you to eat too but what makes them stand out from the rest is their Japanese-style oden menus. Other than that, you can find basic necessities here too.

Other than the basic necessities, they also serve some hot meals and coffee. Two products that differentiate them from the other are their Korner Hotdog and Froster, which is a frosted drink with four different flavours.

That’s it for the most common convenience store that you can find in Indonesia. 7-Eleven used to be in Indonesia but has closed down all its stores since 2017.
