Get Ready for Bali’s Ubud Writers and Readers Festival!

July 31, 2022 – The renowned Ubud Writers and Readers Festival in Bali will be back for the first time in two years from October 27–30, 2022.

To share tales and explore ideas, the festival attracts artists, activists, performers, and authors to Bali’s cultural centre. The theme of the event in 2022 is “Uniting Humanity.” According to the festival website, the topic is “Memayu Hayuning Bawana,” an old Javanese philosophy that translates to “the principles by which we care for, safeguard, and beautify our universe.”

In addition to ticketed events, for individuals who want access to the more upscale and exclusive events schedule, programs are offered across locations throughout the three-day event. The ticketing program also contributes to the funding for school groups to visit events they otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend.

The event is regarded as South East Asia’s largest “festival of words.” Promoting Ubud as a centre for art and culture is one of the festival’s goals. The festival’s primary goals are to promote Indonesian authors globally and give aspiring authors in Indonesia access to education and literature so they can realise their full potential.

The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival is open to everyone, and the program includes some of Indonesia’s best writers, international authors, activists, performers, and speakers. There are many different places where events are held, including cafes and communal areas.

Discussions with writers and authors on their specialised subjects are frequently the focus of headline events. Aside from readings and spoken word performances, the festival also has interactive workshops where aspiring authors may develop their skills with the help of festival attendees.

Janet DeNeefe, the festival’s creator and organiser, has stated that she and her staff are thrilled to welcome people back to the event. The festival platform allows speakers to convey tales about themselves, their community, and their place in the world, and how these stories connect us across cultures in intimate talks.

The full schedule of events will be released closer to the festival, however, early bird tickets are currently available on the website.
