All You Need to Know: Renting a Scooter in Bali – Renting a scooter in Bali is a must if you have an international license. The best way to look through the sceneries that Bali has to offer is using a scooter. While it’s exciting to tour through Bali on your own with a scooter, there are things you need to know before you rent a scooter.

Without further ado, here’s a guide on how to rent a scooter in Bali and what to look out for through the process.

Don’t drive without an international license and travel insurance

It goes without saying that driving without an international license is not recommended. Rent a scooter only if you or your friend has an international license. Bali can be a dangerous place to ride a scooter if you don’t have any driving experience first-hand.

This goes with travel insurance, it’s better to come prepared rather than not being able to access any insurance during your stay in Bali. We’d want your stay in Bali to be filled with good memories, not bad ones. If you’re unsure about which travel insurance to go for, check out our travel insurance guide for more information.

Always have your helmet on

Whether you’re traveling near or far in Bali, always make sure your helmet is on throughout the journey. It’s better to be safe than sorry during your drive around Bali so that you won’t have to use your travel insurance at all. You might see several locals not wearing helmets but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t, always prioritize safety during your trip.

The cost of renting a scooter in Bali

The price varies depending on how long you’re going to rent and what type of scooter you’re going to rent. Some places offer a one-day rate of IDR 60,000 for Honda Vario scooters with up to IDR 1,200,000 for monthly rent.  Some common scooters for rent in Bali are Honda Vario, Honda Beat, Honda Scoopy, Yamaha MIO, Vespa, etc. Sometimes renting a scooter also includes helmets, raincoats, and also free delivery or pick up.

Documents needed to rent

Typically, when renting a scooter in Bali you’ll need to fill out some forms with your full name, passport, and driving license number. You’ll be required to give out your number to the renter, which is beneficial for you as you can contact them if you encounter trouble with your scooter on the way. You’ll need to pay full for the rental, though some places might accept deposits for long-term rental.

Where to rent a scooter?

You can find scooter rentals near some famous tourist spots like Canggu, Kuta Beach, or Seminyak. You can also find scooter rentals online or if you’re staying at a hotel or hostel, the receptionist usually has some recommendations on where you can rent a scooter.

Some other things to remember during your scooter drive in Bali are you stick to the left side of the road. Often enough, you’ll be able to spot some hidden gems around Bali if you were to drive a scooter.
