July 20, 2022 – A streak of accidents happened at the traffic light close to Citra Grand Cibubur on Monday (18/7). Pertamina truck tank collided with 10 motorcyclists and 2 cars when a couple of vehicles stopped at the red light.

It started when the truck containing fuel comes from Cibubur on the way to Cileungsi. The road is going downhill and there’s a traffic light at the site of the accident.

So far, the streak of accidents has taken 10 lives with one of them being identified as a member of the marines of the Indonesian Navy, Pelda Suparno. Furthermore, some are injured and were immediately sent to the closest hospital. While all the deceased were brought to Rumah Sakit Polri Kramat Jati.

Netizens speculate that the accident happened because of the displacement of a traffic light as it’s located on the road going downhill. The netizens have also said that this is not the first time a car accident had happened in that place. In fact, an accident happened on the first day the traffic light was inaugurated.

The Bekasi City Transportation Agency (Dishub) claimed that the traffic light was placed on the site of the accident due to the request of Ciputra Group. The police will summon the manager of Citra Grand Cibubur CBD regarding the location of the traffic light.

Due to the accident, the police will permanently close the U-turn in the location. The Director of Traffic for the Regional Police of Polda Metro Jaya Latif Usman said that the U-turn was initially blocked by a barrier before being permanently closed. Moreover, the traffic light on the site will be turned off.

“We have turned off the traffic light in the sense of hazard. Based on our on-field investigation, there shouldn’t have been any obstacles on this road,” said Latif.
