A heartfelt farewell between Japanese and Indonesian students has gone viral on social media, drawing emotional reactions from viewers around the world.

The video was uploaded by the Japanese language course Instagram account @jcosyogyakarta and shows students from Dokkyo Senior High School in Japan running after a bus carrying Indonesian exchange students. The moment unfolded as the bus slowly left the school grounds, turning an ordinary departure into an unforgettable scene.

Dozens of Japanese students can be seen chasing the bus, waving their hands and shouting goodbye. Their expressions were filled with emotion, as if they were not ready to let the moment end. The spontaneous gesture quickly captured attention online.

Inside the bus, the Indonesian students appeared shocked and deeply moved. Many leaned toward the windows, waving back while trying to process what was happening. Some could be heard laughing, others sounded close to tears. The farewell felt sudden, sincere, and intensely personal.

While recording the moment, the Indonesian students returned the waves and shouts. The goodbye felt unreal, yet genuine, reflecting the bond they had built during their short time together.

From Strangers to Family

The video immediately drew comments from netizens across different countries. Many praised the emotional openness of the Japanese students and the warmth of the moment.

“Best country ever,” wrote one netizen.

“So touching, I hope their friendship continues,” commented another.

Some viewers compared the scene to classic anime or Japanese drama endings, calling it the final episode of a friendship story where no one wanted to say goodbye.

According to a statement shared by JCos Yogyakarta, the relationship between the two groups did not begin in Japan. The students first met through online collaboration before finally meeting in person during the study programme.

“We started as strangers. We met as friends through online collaboration. And we became family in Japan. Distance may separate us, but memories will keep us together. Thank you and see you again,” the caption read.
