Video Shows Balinese Girl Praying Underwater in Amed as Clip Goes Viral

A viral video from Amed has caught everyone’s attention this week. It shows a young woman from Bondalem, Buleleng, kneeling underwater at Jemeluk Beach while performing a simple Hindu prayer ahead of Galungan Day.

She folds her hands calmly as small fish swim past her, creating a serene scene that blends spirituality with Bali’s underwater charm. The video, upload by @pupuota and shared through several local creators like @infodenpasarterkini.id, shows how Balinese tradition finds its place anywhere, even beneath the waves.

Jemeluk Beach, located in the quiet coastal village of Amed, sits about 19 kilometres from Amlapura and only a short drive from popular diving spots like Tulamben.

Although known for its relaxed pace on land, Jemeluk’s real appeal lies below the surface. Crystal-clear water, gentle currents and colourful marine life make it one of Bali’s most accessible places for snorkelling and freediving.

The girl in the video appears completely at ease, showing how calm the bay usually is.

According to Mongabay, the people of Jemeluk Village have been actively caring for their marine ecosystem by transplanting coral at several points around the beach.

To attract more international visitors, the community even placed a stone temple structure five metres underwater. This unique installation now sits among coral and fish, making it a favourite spot for underwater photography. It’s also where the viral video seems to have been filmed.

Amed’s Underwater Charm

Jemeluk is a favourite for freedivers, snorkellers and photographers who want clear water without crowds. Even those who don’t dive can enjoy the scenery.

The hills around the beach offer an easy viewpoint where visitors can watch rows of jukung boats lining the shore, the changing shades of the bay and the gentle rhythm of village life. At sunset, the whole area glows with warm light, making it popular for slow, scenic evenings.

The video of the underwater prayer captures exactly what makes Amed special calm, culture and the kind of views that don’t need filters. Whether you’re here for diving or just to enjoy Bali away from the busier south, Jemeluk has a peaceful charm that keeps travellers coming back.
