A 22-year-old Chinese tourist has reported a rape incident in Bali after returning from a night out in the South Kuta area. The alleged assault took place in the early hours of Monday, 23 March 2026.

Head of Public Relations for the Bali Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, confirmed that the case is under investigation and that officers are searching for the suspect.

“The perpetrator is under investigation,” he said to Kumparancom.

According to police, the victim had been visiting a restaurant and bar in the Uluwatu area, Pecatu Village, Badung Regency, with a friend at around 1:00 a.m. WITA.

Victim Taken to Remote Area

At approximately 4:00 a.m., the victim’s friend left the venue earlier due to fatigue. The victim later followed, intending to return to her accommodation. However, she reported being unable to recall how she left the location.

“The reporter/victim doesn’t remember suddenly being on a motorcycle driven by a man wearing a dark blue shirt,” Ariasandy said.

During the journey, the victim realised that the motorcycle was not heading towards her accommodation. Instead, she was taken to a secluded area.

“The victim saw many trees and grass on the right and left, and the road was paved, and as far as the victim remembered, there were streetlights on one side of the road,” he said.

Police stated that the suspect then forced the victim into nearby bushes, where the assault took place. The victim attempted to resist but was unable to prevent the attack.

Investigation Ongoing, Victim Files Report

After the incident, the suspect transported the victim back to her accommodation. He reportedly used the victim’s mobile phone to identify the location.

Upon arrival, the victim entered her accommodation and gave the suspect Rp150,000 as he continued to harass her. She later realised that the suspect had taken her iPhone 14.

“The victim only realised that the man still had her cell phone,” Ariasandy said.

The victim attempted to locate the suspect but he had already left the area. She later reported the incident to the police.

“As a result of this incident, the victim felt shocked, traumatised, and frightened, and so she filed a police report with the Bali Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (SPKT) on 24 March 2026,” he said.

The case is being handled under Article 473 and/or Article 6 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, covering allegations of rape, sexual violence, and theft. Police said efforts to identify and locate the suspect are ongoing.
