Gubernur DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said the recent staging of Pestapora and The Weeknd’s concerts generated nearly Rp250 billion in economic activity in Jakarta.
Pramono made the statement on Monday, 28 September, after receiving a report on the economic activity associated with the two music events. According to him, the events contributed to economic movement across the capital over the course of two days.
“I received a report that during Pestapora and The Weeknd, over these two days, economic activity in Jakarta reached almost Rp250 billion,” Pramono said, as quoted by detik.com and ANTARA.
The figure refers to economic activity generated around the events and should not be interpreted as Rp250 billion in revenue received directly by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Pestapora and The Weeknd Draw Large Crowds
Pestapora 2026 was held from 25 to 27 September at Gambir Expo and Hall D2 JIEXPO Kemayoran. The three-day music festival featured 330 performers across 19 performance areas, bringing together artists from different genres.
The Weeknd, meanwhile, performed in Jakarta as part of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour. His concerts took place on 26 and 27 September at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).
The two events took place during the same weekend, bringing large numbers of visitors to different parts of the capital.
Beyond ticket sales, major music events can generate activity across supporting sectors. Visitors may spend money on transport, accommodation, food and beverages, retail and other services while attending events. Event organisers also require various services and workers, creating additional economic activity around the performances.
Pramono said the impact of the two events showed how large-scale entertainment can contribute to economic activity in Jakarta.
Jakarta Continues to Attract International Performances
Pramono also linked the recent concerts to Jakarta’s efforts to strengthen its position as a global city.
He said he had discussed Jakarta’s development with representatives of New York University during his recent visit to New York. According to Pramono, the university representatives were aware of major international artists scheduled to perform in Jakarta.
Among the artists he mentioned were Ye, The Weeknd, Westlife and Andrea Bocelli.
Pramono said the growing number of international performances indicated that Jakarta was being selected as a destination for major music events.
Ye is scheduled to perform in Jakarta on 24 October 2026, while Westlife is scheduled to perform in the capital on 23 January 2027, according to ANTARA. Pramono also mentioned Andrea Bocelli in connection with a performance at Borobudur.
The Jakarta Government has increasingly highlighted large-scale events as part of the capital’s development as a global city. For the recent weekend, the reported economic activity from Pestapora and The Weeknd provides an example of how major music events can extend beyond entertainment and contribute to activity across the wider urban economy.
