The Kobokan Water Claim Its Victim Once Again, This Time It’s A Caucasian Man

Share:

The viral video of tourists accidentally drinking kobokan water is again making waves on social media. However, unlike the previous Korean vloggers, this time, the victim is a Caucasian man visiting Balinese food stall.

Indonesians are undoubtedly familiar with kobokan. Kobokan is water provided by street vendors, so visitors can wash their hands in it after eating.

Kobokan water is usually served with lime wedges to remove the smell of food from their hands. Foreign tourists who have no idea about the kobokan water will be confused, and the majority will think it is a complimentary drink provided by the street vendor. This is precisely what happened to a foreign tourist who visited a Balinese food stall for the first time in Pemuteran, Bali.

The viral video uploaded by the Tiktok account @arenikahappyspiritus shows several foreigners sitting in a Balinese stall. Before their food orders are served, the stall owner prepares kobokan water for them to wash their hands.

The kobokan water is usually served in a small bowl and topped with a lime wedge. Mistaking the kobokan water for drinking water, one of the foreign men in the group drank the kobokan water until nothing was left.

This, of course, made his friends who came with him burst out laughing. Even the owner of the Balinese stall  laughed.

“Ketika bule pertama kali ke warung lokal,” (When a foreigner visits a local vendor for the first time,) she wrote in the video.

It wasn’t until the woman who owned the Balinese stall came to deliver the coconut ice that the caucasian woman who recorded the video told her friend that their drinks had just been served.

“That’s your drink; they think this (kobokan) is a drink. Lucky he’s still alive,” said the caucasian woman who recorded the video.

After being uploaded, the video went viral on social media and elicited various responses from netizens (internet citizens) in the comments section; most of them found this incident very amusing and entertaining.
