Miss Universe Indonesia 2025, Sanly Liu, brought the spirit of Balinese tradition to the National Costume segment of Miss Universe 2025 with a design inspired by sacred offerings.

The costume, titled “Bali Yadnya – The Eternal Offering of Devotion,” was created by Balinese designer I Nyoman Inggi Kendran from Mengwi, Badung Regency. The piece appeared on the Instagram accounts @inggikendran.official and @sanlyliuu on Wednesday (19 November 2025), confirming its debut on the Miss Universe stage.

The concept draws heavily from banten and peed, two important forms of Balinese offerings that represent gratitude and harmony.

Through her post, Inggi explained that the philosophy behind the design reflects the values embedded in Balinese daily life. “ In Balinese philosophy, Yadnya signifies selfless devotion – the pure act of giving from the heart to honor life’s unseen harmony,” she wrote.

The centrepiece of the design is a modern interpretation of the gebogan, the tall, decorative arrangement of fruits and flowers often carried by women during temple ceremonies. Inggi noted that each layer of a gebogan holds symbolic meaning for the Balinese community.

“The costume embodies the grandeur of a gebogan, a towering offering made from fruits and flowers gracefully carried by Balinese women during temple ceremonies,” she said, emphasising the elegance and cultural depth behind the offering.

For Inggi, the piece goes beyond aesthetics. She described “Bali Yadnya” as a heartfelt tribute.

The designer added that the visual elements serve as a “hymn” to faith, gratitude, and the balance upheld through traditional offering rituals. The costume is designed to introduce global audiences to the spiritual character of Bali, wrapped in contemporary pageantry.

Sanly’s presentation received attention online, with supporters highlighting the blend of elegance and cultural storytelling. The costume’s bright palette, sculptural elements, and ceremonial references underline the connection between Balinese identity and modern fashion.

Sanly Liu as Miss Universe Indonesia 2025

Indonesia welcomed its new beauty queen on 22 September 2025 when Sanly Liu, a 29-year-old entrepreneur based in Bali, won the title of Miss Universe Indonesia 2025. The coronation took place at The Tribrata Dharmawangsa in Jakarta, where she surpassed 15 other finalists.

Sanly’s confident presence and clear communication set her apart. Her direct answers impressed the judging panel and secured her victory over Rita Nurmaliza from Riau (1st Runner-Up) and Kirana Larasati from Jakarta (2nd Runner-Up). The judges noted her composed delivery and strategic approach to the final question round.

Beyond her pageant win, Sanly has built a reputation as an entrepreneur and influencer. She has spent the last four years living in Bali, where she runs businesses in fashion, villa property, and beauty services. Her career shift into pageantry reflects a personal ambition she had put on hold. Sanly once thought she might never compete due to age and business commitments, but she eventually decided to give it a serious attempt.

Although she was born in Jakarta, Sanly chose to represent Bali, which she now considers home. Her choice was well-received and highlighted Bali’s strong presence in national pageantry.
