The Miss Grand International 2025 beauty pageant is in full swing in Thailand. One of its most anticipated segments is the National Costume round. Held on Monday, 13 October 2025, contestants from around the globe took to the stage to showcase their countries’ heritage through symbolic attire.

Contestants showcased their nation’s heritage, with judging based on both an expert panel’s assessment and global public online votes. Each year, the costumes spark conversations about tradition, creativity, and national pride. This time was no exception.

Indonesia’s representative, Vina Sitorus, made a powerful statement. She presented a magnificent national costume inspired by the Indonesian folk tale figure, Nyi Roro Kidul.

Vina Sitorus Embodies Nyi Roro Kidul: A Royal Tribute to the Sea’s Guardian

Representing Indonesia, finalist Vina Sitorus wore a striking costume inspired by one of the nation’s most enduring legends, Nyi Roro Kidul, the Queen of the South Seas. Designer Welly Winald is behind the striking creation.

The costume is a deep dive into Indonesian myth, honouring the Queen’s enduring legacy. Winald’s vision was clearly shared on social media a day after the competition.

The designer explained how the look aimed to bring alive the Queen’s authority and her bond with the ocean.

Vina Sitorus embodied the regal figure perfectly. She wore the costume as the sea’s ruler. Winald noted, “she stands as the ruler of the ocean, a guardian of balance between the realms of the seen and the unseen.”

The design featured dragons. These dragons rise as loyal warriors,” according to the designer, embodying the Queen’s courage, protection, and undeniable strength.

The costume itself is predominantly green, evoking the depths of the ocean. Luxurious gold details and corset-like pieces add an elegant, rich touch. Long jasmine garlands completed the look, grounding the modern design in cherished tradition.

The designer sees the outfit as more than just clothing. He explained, “Each shimmering scale reflects the waves of the ocean, echoing the grandeur of a story that flows endlessly through generations.”

Concluding his statement, Winald said, “Behold, Nyi Roro Kidul, The Queen of the Southern Sea, and her dragon guardians – a breathtaking offering to the world, revealing the infinite ocean of Indonesian heritage.”

Following the National Costume show, the competition schedule moves quickly. The semi-finals are set for Wednesday, 15 October.

The grand final will take place on Saturday, 18 October, according to Vietnam VN. This year, public engagement holds significant power. The top 20 finalists will be selected partly based on the number of ‘likes’ received on the pageant’s official Facebook and Instagram pages.

This year’s top 20 were determined not only by the judges but also through social media engagement. The organisers announced that “likes” on the official Miss Grand International Facebook and Instagram accounts played a role in determining who advanced to the next stage.
