Tourists planning to visit Bali’s picturesque Legian area are urged to exercise extra caution following a recent surge in attacks against visitors in Legian Bali. Local authorities have taken swift action to address the issue, assuring the public they are actively monitoring the situation.

In recent weeks, the Legian region has experienced an alarming increase in robberies and mugging attacks targeting tourists. The local police force, in collaboration with community leaders, has launched an intensive security initiative to ensure the safety of tourists and residents in the area.

On Monday, October 9th, Ni Putu Eka Martini, the Head of Legian Village, addressed the media and confirmed that 24-hour patrols had been implemented in Legian, Bali. These patrols, carried out by a dedicated security unit known locally as the Kancil Team, consist of local pecalang officers and police teams working in tandem.

Martini explained, “We have started patrolling again because this is also responding to various incidents and reports from several accommodations claiming that guests were mugging victims.”

The Kancil Team, formed  of eight members working in three shifts over 24 hours, will be patrolling the streets of Legian on motorbikes. Their primary focus areas include Jalan Legian, Jalan Padma, and Jalan Popies, where most incidents have occurred.

However, the team will continue their efforts in these locations and conduct surveillance throughout the entire Legian, Bali area. “The frequent locations for these robberies are Jalan Legian and Jalan Padma,” Martini stated. “But, for patrols, of course, we will cover the entire Legian area, including points that are busy with tourists, such as Jalan Sahadewa, Jalan Werkudara, and surrounding roads.”

Tourists and residents are urged to remain vigilant during their stay in Legian and to report any suspicious activities or incidents immediately to the local authorities. The deployment of the Kancil Team and the increased police presence aim to deter criminal activity and ensure a safer environment for everyone visiting or residing in this popular tourist destination.

Local businesses, accommodations, and the wider community cooperate closely with law enforcement to address this issue and help maintain Legian’s reputation as a welcoming and secure destination for travellers worldwide. Visitors are encouraged to stay informed about security and take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings and personal safety.
