Recommended Cinemas in Indonesia

Share:

Besides malls that are almost everywhere, movies and cinemas are also easy to find in Indonesia. There are even certain places that provide private cinemas to be enjoyed with friends. Worry not, cinemas in Indonesia are equipped with good facilities and updated films. Although there may be some films that are not shown in Indonesia due to existing regulations. But there’s nothing wrong with visiting these cinemas to watch your favourite films!

Cinema XXI

This brand is a premium cinema chain in Indonesia, mostly showing Hollywood, European, Bollywood, and local productions. Shown in the original language, with Indonesian subtitles. You can find theatres across Jakarta. Plus, 21 Group has also collaborated with IMAX companies—a cinema company from the United States that specializes in making super large screens. It also has an online app to order your ticket called MTIX. One of the drawbacks of this cinema is that it rarely shows Asian-made films or indie films.

Cinemaxx – Cinépolis

Cinemaxx is a cinema company owned by the Lippo Group. In 2018, the Cinemaxx company was bought by a Mexican cinema company, Cinépolis. Then in 2019, the shares of the Cinemaxx company were acquired by Cinépolis, thus changing its name from Cinemaxx to Cinépolis. This brand already has more than 40 cinemas throughout Indonesia with several studios with unique concepts; for example, Cinépolis Junior cinema (kids cinema), Cinépolis Macro XE, and Cinépolis VIP.

Subtitles

Subtitles is an independent cinema and DVD rental store, with a wide collection of movie genres. This place offers a private viewing experience. The collection of films they have now has around 4,000 films, both mainstream, indie, Hollywood, films from other countries, festival films, and films that did not show in Indonesia, either in theatres or on streaming apps. There are 5 (five) viewing rooms available here. So, they don’t have a film screening schedule and we choose it ourselves because these subtitles are not cinemas. Of these five rooms, one of the largest rooms, or the high-definition room can accommodate 8 people, and the other four can accommodate a maximum of 6 people.
