Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has begun a four-day working visit to Indonesia, taking place from 24 to 27 November 2025.

She arrived at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Monday evening (24 November) on commercial flight KLM 809. At the VVIP area, she was received by the Chief Executive of Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK), Frederika Widyasari Dewi, and the Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia, Marc Gerritsen.

A guard of honour was also present to mark the start of her programme in the country.

According to the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, Queen Máxima is visiting Indonesia in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Financial Health, a role she has held since her appointment by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in September 2024.

Her agenda includes meetings with policymakers, financial institutions, private-sector representatives and community groups.

“President Prabowo’s meeting with Queen Máxima is expected to serve as a momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s collaboration with the UN in the financial sector,” the Presidential Secretariat stated.

Field Visits in Central Java

Queen Máxima began her schedule on Tuesday (25 November) with a field visit in Surakarta, Central Java. She held discussions with employees involved in a programme by Reimagining Industries to Support Equality (RISE) at a garment factory. The initiative focuses on workplace support and equality measures.

She then met female entrepreneurs at a traditional batik studio, where workers receive training in financial management and digital literacy. A final session, organised by Women’s World Banking, brought together young people, students, entrepreneurs and an influencer to share experiences with financial products and digital financial services.

On the same day, Queen Máxima also travelled to Sragen Regency, Central Java, where she visited a garment factory in Ngrampal District. She wore a yellow outfit and a batik-patterned scarf upon her arrival at Adi Soemarmo Airport, where the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Surakarta, Respati Ardi and Astrid Widayani, welcomed her.

In Sragen, she was received by Sragen Regent Sigit Pamungkas and company representatives. The Regent highlighted the purpose of the Queen’s visit.

“So, the financial health programmes offered by companies for their employees are seen as something positive. That’s why she’s here to review them,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Sigit said he appreciated her engagement during the visit.

“Actually, her visit is as the UN special envoy for financial health. So, it’s not her role as queen, but as a UN special envoy. As Queen of the Netherlands, to my knowledge, this is the first time she’s visited Sragen,” he said.

Meetings in Jakarta

On Wednesday (26 November), Queen Máxima is scheduled to visit the UN office in Jakarta for a roundtable with development organisations. She will then travel to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, to discuss loan development supporting economic growth and financial health.

A field visit outside Jakarta to the Gran Harmoni Housing Cluster will follow, where she will meet homeowners and observe a mortgage-signing session for first-time buyers. She will later visit Deloitte to discuss how companies support the financial well-being of employees and clients.

In the evening, a session hosted by the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth will enable Queen Máxima to speak with chief executives about expanding insurance packages and savings programmes designed to help communities manage financial pressure.

Her final day in Indonesia (27 November) includes participation in a roundtable discussion at the National Financial Health Event organised by OJK. She will meet ministers to discuss policies affecting household financial health and speak with OJK officials. She is also expected to attend a plenary discussion on family financial resilience.

During the visit, President Prabowo will receive Queen Máxima to hear the findings of her field work and consultations.
