Moroccan Sisters Deported After 866-Days Overstay in Bali

August 8. 2022 – Two Moroccan sisters were deported after 866-days overstay in Bali. The sisters, ZO, 37, and MO, 41, were deported to Casablanca.

On November 27, 2019, the sisters traveled to Indonesia on a 30-day visiting visa. This meant they had to depart the nation by December 26th, 2019, at the latest. They contend that flight cancellations due to Covid-19 prevented them from leaving back to Morocco.

Anggiat Napitupulu, the head of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regional office in Bali, verified the case in a written press release and explained how the sisters were deported after 866-days overstay in Bali and have now been added to Indonesia’s “blacklist” and will not be allowed to return again.

Napitupulu described how the sisters acknowledged that they were aware of the steps involved in extending a visa on shore. Not much additional information has been disclosed regarding the sisters. It is unknown where they stayed or how they managed to maintain themselves while in Bali. According to reports, they did first travel for vacation when they arrived in Bali.

Not only do they overstay their 30-day visas, but their passports also expired during their time in Bali. This caused the immigration authorities additional problems because their deportation is postponed until their new passports were obtained. The sister will fly with a Saudi Airlines flight that went from Bali to Jakarta and then on to Casablanca, Morocco.

Overstaying a visa is extremely serious problem in Indonesia. While all overstays are prohibited, the Immigration Department is most concerned with overstays of 60 days or longer. Foreign people who overstay their visas are deported if they don’t have money to pay the IDR 1,000,000 daily overstay fine or to pay for their return airfare.

Anyone who have overstayed their visa or has questions regarding the rules of their visa is recommended to get in touch with the Bali authorities as soon as possible. Immigration has the power to deport a person through drawn-out formal procedures even if the fund is available.
